βοΈ The temperatures are starting to rise in the CSRA area, and we want to remind all pet owners about the serious dangers of heatstroke in pets.
Dogs and cats can overheat VERY quickly, especially during walks, outdoor playtime, car rides, or even while relaxing outside in direct sunlight. Heatstroke can become life-threatening within minutes.
Please always supervise your pets outdoors and watch for signs such as:
πΎ Excessive panting
πΎ Heavy drooling
πΎ Bright red or pale gums
πΎ Vomiting or diarrhea
πΎ Weakness or collapse
πΎ Lethargy
πΎ Disorientation or unusual behavior
πΎ Difficulty breathing
π₯ Important Summer Safety Tips:
β’ Always provide access to fresh, cool water
β’ Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day
β’ Walk pets early in the morning or later in the evening
β’ Check pavement temperatures before walks if it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for their paws!
β’ Make sure pets always have shade and cool resting areas
β’ NEVER leave a pet unattended in a parked car, even with windows cracked
If you suspect your pet may be overheating, move them to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Stay safe and help keep our furry friends cool this summer! β€οΈπΆ
