🦎 Crested geckos became popular pets because they combine a manageable size with relatively simple care.

They don’t need extreme heat, they can climb using adhesive toe pads, and many tolerate gentle handling well.

Their huge variety of colors and morphs has also made them especially popular among reptile keepers.

Asta — Female Crested Gecko

Asta | Female | 50% Possible Het Axanthic | High Contrast

Asta is one of the geckos that has been particularly difficult for us to decide to part with. She has a look we genuinely love, and she has already produced a beautiful hatchling that is very close to the direction we originally hoped to pursue.

Asta was purchased from 402 Exotics, with her breeding believed to trace back to Krested Kreationz. The information provided with her identifies her as CC.50AX.KK.2 — Correlophus ciliatus, 50% possible het Axanthic, Krested Kreationz, #2.

We were told that one of her parents was 100% het Axanthic, and that the three females from this group developed exceptionally dark coloration. Her complete lineage beyond that is unknown, so we are not representing her as het Axanthic—only as a 50% possible het based on the information provided.

Visually, Asta is exactly the kind of high-contrast gecko we love. Fired down, her darker areas can take on a beautiful green/olive cast, while fired up she can become a deep brown to near-black. She has the contrast and depth of color that originally drew us toward this project.

She has also produced one beautiful hatchling for us, and we were very happy with the result.

We’re scaling back our crested gecko program as we shift more of our focus toward Chahoua, so we’re opening the opportunity for the right keeper to take Asta home.

This is a difficult one for us to let go of because we genuinely like her. We’re looking for someone who appreciates her particular look and understands the limitations of her available lineage information.

Vanderspeigle — Male Crested Gecko

Vanderspeigle | Male | Harry Line

Vanderspeigle is a male from A.C. Reptiles’ Harry line, and was originally brought into our program with a very specific breeding goal in mind.

He is a direct descendant of the original Harry from the lineage developed by A.C. Reptiles, with traits including:

• Harry line structure
• Empty Back influence
• Super Soft Scale
• Whitewall
• Tangerine pigment
• Strong base color

His original lineage was particularly exciting for producing large-headed, high-contrast animals and Super Empty offspring when paired appropriately with Empty Back females.

As he’s matured, however, he has developed spotting that doesn’t fit the direction we are pursuing with our own high-contrast line. Because we’re also scaling back our crested gecko breeding program, we’ve decided to make Vanderspeigle available to someone who will be excited to work with what he does bring to the table.

He is a very chill, easygoing male and has been a pleasant gecko to work with here.

We’re not looking to move him simply to move him—we’d love to see him go to someone who appreciates the Harry line and has a breeding or collection goal where he makes sense.

Showgirl — Female Crested Gecko

Showgirl is a female from a line we were genuinely excited to work with. Her own appearance is more understated, but her genetic background is where much of her appeal lies.

She descends from 5 O’Clock Shadow × Wh***ey on Ice, produced by Underground Geckos of Texas, and genetically brings influence for red underbase, dark base, large black spotting, red spotting, and white portholes.

She has already produced two hatchlings for us, and we’re excited about the potential represented by this line.

As we’re scaling back our crested gecko breeding program, we’re offering Showgirl to someone who specifically appreciates working with lineage and genetics rather than looking only for a visually loud animal.

Tilted Stage — Male Crested Gecko

Tilted Stage is a Belgium-origin male from Geeks and Geckos, from a line we were particularly excited to work with. His lineage is well documented, and his genetics have proven interesting in production.

He has produced high-expression Dalmatian offspring with red, olive, and black spotting, along with portholes, making him an especially interesting option for someone working toward high-expression Dalmatian projects.

He can be a more reactive/spicy gecko and is best suited to a confident keeper who is comfortable working with an animal that can be a little unpredictable during handling. He was much more red as a juvenile and can still show red coloration depending on his state.

We’re scaling back our crested gecko breeding program, so we’re looking for someone who is excited about his lineage and production potential and can give him a purposeful place in their program.

A small change of direction at Useless Reptiles 🦎

After some thought, we’ve decided to scale back our crested gecko breeding plans.

We’ve loved getting to raise these animals, learn from them, and watch our first hatchlings grow. But as we’ve looked at where we want Useless Reptiles to go, we’ve realized that a smaller, more intentional collection is a better fit for us right now.

Because of that, we’ll be looking for the right homes for several of our crested geckos.

These are not animals we’re trying to move simply to make space. Each one has been cared for here, and our priority is finding homes that are a good fit for the individual gecko and the keeper bringing them home.

The geckos being offered will be posted individually with their hatch date/age, s*x, weight, genetics/lineage information where known, temperament, and photos.

If one catches your eye, please reach out. We’re happy to answer questions and would rather take our time finding the right home than rush a placement.

Our first Dalmatian project hatchlings have arrived, and now the quiet work begins.

At this stage they look very similar, but subtle differences in spotting and tone are already starting to show. We’re taking our time watching structure develop, tracking feeding, and making sure each one is confidently growing before anything else.
