Bear, a 1.5-year-old male tabby, presented to VERC for evaluation of lethargy, inappetence, and straining to urinate.
Following examination and diagnostics, Dr. Smith diagnosed Bear with a urethral obstruction — a common but life-threatening emergency in male cats.
Due to the narrow diameter of the male urethra, even small blockages can quickly lead to dangerous complications such as kidney damage, bladder rupture, and electrolyte imbalances.
Bear was hospitalized, received IV fluid therapy, IV antibiotics, and had an indwelling urinary catheter placed to relieve the obstruction and support his recovery. 🐈♥️
