We received this message from Emmy’s mom, and we wanted to share her words with all of you. Sometimes it’s hard to truly understand the impact of what we are doing until we hear it directly from the family.

❤️ SOMETIMES, SHOWING UP IS EVERYTHING.

Earlier, I asked the 385 Project and the Husker Antler Dogs family to come together for a young man named Emmy.

Emmy is the son of one of my students. He was born with Down syndrome and multiple health complications. He has already endured multiple surgeries and has spent much of his young life in Children's Hospital.

I shared his story because I believe something very strongly:

Sometimes we don't have to be able to fix someone's problems. Sometimes we just need to show up.

Today, Emmy's mom sent me a message that meant more than she probably realizes:

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means a lot."

She also shared a list of things Emmy could use right now.

There are things on this list that cost a lot.

But there are also things that cost very little.

A package of diapers.
A package of wipes.
A pair of socks.

A toy.
A blanket.

Never underestimate what a small act of kindness can mean to a family that is carrying a very heavy load.

The 385 Project started with a number on a scale.

But it has become about something much bigger for me.

It's about realizing that we have the ability to change our own lives — and maybe, along the way, help change someone else's.

That's what I hope we can do for Emmy and his mom.

We may not be able to take away the surgeries.
We may not be able to take away the hospital stays.
We may not be able to take away the worry that comes with being his mom.

But we can show up.
