No class tonight due to incoming severe weather!

Please keep your pets safe today into tomorrow!
• Have a collar with tags
• Take them outside on a leash in case they get spooked and bolt
• Provide them inside entertainment in the form of bones or chews
• For the sound sensitive pups, play music or a movie. Look into a thunder vest or wrap their ears/chest for extra comfort
• If sheltering in an “unknown” place I.e. the bathroom bring items of comfort, a bed or mat, and keep them on a leash

We’re just sitting here pondering why Asher hasn’t been swept off of his grinch feets to live happily ever after.

Used as a sick and twisted way to get back at his mom, Asher’s dad decided to starve him until he wasn’t anything by bones and hair. Once we got him, we rushed him into the vet with concerns of the shape of his spine and walking. Before you ask, we do not know what happened to the owner(s). Hopefully he…….(fill in the blanks so we don’t get banned on fb today).

Being stuck in a crate that was likely too small while slowly starving to death led to the curve of his spine and very minor hip dysplasia with no arthritis at that time. Our vet felt confident that once groceries and muscle started to come back, we would see him begin to straighten out… and we have, but we don’t think he’ll ever be perfect.

Asher loves people, like can’t get enough of people, and would be the BEST therapy dog if you were interested in something like that. He does well with cats, and other dogs. He is currently living with our oldies crew, but doesn’t realize that he’s not a cloud and can take them out when zoomies happen so he’s been getting alone time to be a goof. He is potty trained, crate trained, and knows many commands thanks to his class with Paws and Think and their Youth Canine Program.

From time to time, I hear dog owners talk about the struggle that their dog does not enjoy car rides. Sometimes the only places we take our dogs is to the vet, groomer, training class or a stressful long car ride. If every time you got in the car you went somewhere you DID NOT want to go, you wouldn't want to get in the car either. Something you might consider:
1. Take your dog on a short trip to a neighborhood park, even if it's just a 5-minute drive and take a sniffari walk around the park then going back home. Even though you may be able to walk to the park its always good to practice fun car rides! Matter of fact the shorter the drive the better!
2. Take a short car ride to your local ice cream shop, Starbucks, dairy queen etc. and get a treat for yourself and a pup cup for your dog. Pull off and let your dog enjoy their treat before driving back home-Don't make them eat it while you are driving!

**Your dog may also be experiencing discomfort when riding in the car! You might consider putting in a dog seat cover hammock, so they have better grip and have the ability to lay down comfortably when riding in the back https://a.co/d/04Ac9jwT

**Crack the window to let them get some fresh air to help with car sickness (note make sure your dog has a seatbelt tether to ensure they cannot escape through the window https://a.co/d/04Ac9jwT )

**Bring along an enrichment items such as a special chew bone, stuffy or lick mat. Currently one of my dogs grabs a favorite toy to take with her on car rides and that's totally ok!

Another concern I hear from dog owners is that their neighborhood has many invisible fences with dogs charging the yards so they cannot walk their dogs in the neighborhood. This is a great opportunity to get in the car and drive to a local park. Indiana has so many parks and walking spaces to enjoy there is no reason you cannot drive 5-10 minutes down the road to a greenspace to walk your dog for exercise and subsequently practice your car manners!
