There are dogs that come into your life, and then there are heart dogs. Oliver was one of mine.
For most of his 15 years, I had the absolute privilege of seeing him every month. The first Wednesday of every month became my “Happy Ollie Day,” because I knew if Oliver was on my schedule, it was going to be a great day.
My sweet “doggie boyfriend” was always so excited to see me, and I was just as excited to see him. Grooming Oliver never felt like work. He was my companion through every appointment, always staying close by my side. He took his job as my protector very seriously, especially when it came to those “scrub people” (aka the vet technicians). I always knew I had my own little bodyguard.
And let’s not forget the treats. Oliver knew exactly how to work me into giving him more than he probably should have had, and if that wasn’t enough, he’d boss poor Misty around hoping she’d sneak him a few extras too. How could anyone say no to that sweet face?
Oliver wasn’t just a client he was family. He made my job better simply by being there.
My heart is broken knowing there won’t be another Happy Ollie Day, but I will forever be grateful that I got to love him and be part of his life for so many years.
Run free, my sweet Oliver. Thank you for trusting me, loving me, protecting me, and reminding me every month why I love what I do. You will forever be one of my heart dogs, and I’ll carry your memory with me always.
Sending all my love and prayers to your amazing momma, Tammy. Thank you for sharing your precious boy with me all these years. There are no words that can take away this kind of pain, but I hope you find comfort knowing how deeply Oliver was loved by so many. He truly was one of a kind.
