Ever wonder what an examination and float (odontoplasty) looks like with Dr Marty Whitehouse Riney?

When she arrives she will go over the horse and do a basic physical exam prior to administering sedation. From there an oral speculum is placed and the horse is settled on a padded head stand that allows for a full oral examination to determine the extent of pathology or issues in the oral cavity. Then a "float" is performed as needed. After examining the cheek teeth the canines and incisors are evaluated. Once everything is checked a paper record is completed for each patient.

Thanks to Sharp media for this incredible footage in early January (note the incredible slow motion of steam from the warm mouth when it hits the cold January air!). We love getting to team up with clients when we need something made for us!

Nice poster made by Zoetis to remind horse owners some clinical signs to monitor in regards to determining whether or not your equine partner may be in need of an oral exam.

Love going out to see old clients new farms! I think it's one of the most fun parts of being an ambulatory veterinarian. Every new farm represents someone's years of dreaming and planning. So excited for Taylor and her mares ❤️
