This was a dog-friendly event and I saw a few familiar faces; you know who you are!

Today I had the pleasure and honor of being in attendance with hundreds of concerned citizens at Newton City Hall. I was in the presence of so many people from the Newton community as well as surrounding areas--both Asians and non-Asians. It was peaceful and the turnout was INCREDIBLE--strength in numbers! (I couldn’t find parking for the longest time)!

I am so proud of Newton and the following pictures I will be showing do not even do the event justice. Apologies for some of the bad photography; I was shy about taking pictures of people with signs!

The speakers were all very interesting and made good points. Some speakers include: leaders of the Asian American community (both Chinese, Korean, etc.); Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan; a Jewish rabbi; FORJ spokesperson (Families Organizing For Racial Justice); Congressperson Jake Auchlincoss; NCBR spokesperson (Newton Coalition of Black Residents); Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller; and many more, including some Newton youth.

The words spoken were impactful, empowering and hopeful. I was especially proud of my Asian Americans for speaking up, speaking out and speaking loudly.

P.S. The vigil had many Asian American woman speakers. I didn't have many still shots of them but took video instead of their speeches. Just wanted to let everyone know I wasn't purposely excluding them!

Hi all,
There has been a huge uptick in violent crimes against Asian Americans across the country recently. Tuesday's tragic shooting was a sad reminder that violence against Asian Americans is very real and that this violence and racism was already happening before COVID-19 hit us. According to FBI.gov statistics from 2018, Asian Americans are the most disproportionately victimized racial group in the United States.

As an Asian American Newton resident, I would love it if you would consider putting up  lawn signs to show your support and solidarity. I am in the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islanders) Alliance (a Facebook group), but this was also posted on both Nextdoor and a Newton Facebook group I belong to. Since I'm in the group that's ordering the lawn signs, I can be in contact with people if needed. But the Google form is pretty self explanatory.

The signs are free but they're asking for $6.10 donation per sign, if possible. If you cannot afford a donation at this point in time, they said not to worry about it. They just want to see as many signs on lawns as possible!

"The AAPI Alliance is ordering  lawn signs and would love to see them all over Newton! If you would like to host one, please fill out this google form. We will reach out when they are ready for pick-up."

Pickup is in Newton and Needham.
