**Warning, live birth video**

This beautiful mare came to us to foal her very first baby! Not all of our guests come to us due to medical concerns. This sweet girl stayed with us because her owner had an out-of-town commitment that coincided with her due date. To ensure she received attentive care and monitoring, the decision was made for her to travel to us several weeks before foaling.

Of course, she decided to keep us on our toes and wait until day 354! Knowing she was getting close Saturday morning, I began monitoring her on our stall cameras at 12:45 a.m. After finally giving a clear sign that labor was approaching, I headed out to prepare her stall, wrap her tail, and begin her foaling log.

At 3:19 a.m., her water broke. Soon after came two front feet, then a nose—and by 3:26 a.m., this beautiful filly made her arrival! The mare passed her placenta promptly at 4:00 a.m., and this incredibly strong and intelligent little filly was standing and nursing by 4:30 a.m.

Both mare and filly are healthy, thriving, and scheduled to travel home this weekend. Congratulations to the proud owners, and best wishes as they begin this exciting new journey together!

A beautiful birth took place in the early hours Saturday morning! Stay tuned as I hope to get their story posted soon! ...

⚠️ Horse Owner Weather Alert – Rapid Temperature Drop ⚠️

Horse owners in and around SWVA should be aware of a dramatic temperature swing over the next 36 hours. Temperatures are expected to fall more than 50°F, going from near 80°F today to the mid-20s overnight tomorrow.

Sudden weather changes like this can cause horses to drink less water, increasing the risk of dehydration and colic.

🐴 Helpful reminders for horse owners:

• Provide electrolytes to encourage drinking.
• Make sure horses always have clean, fresh water available.
• Check that water sources are not frozen.
• Monitor horses closely for changes in drinking or appetite.
• Consider blanketing horses that are body clipped, elderly, or sensitive to cold.

A little extra attention during these rapid weather changes can make a big difference in keeping our horses healthy and comfortable.

Stay safe and give your horses a big pat for me! 💙
