πŸ”₯🐾 Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day! 🐾πŸ”₯
Let’s take a moment to make sure our pets are protected in the event of a fire.

Every year, more than 500,000 pets are affected by house fires and sadly, many are preventable. Today is all about spreading awareness and making sure our furry family members stay safe.

Here are some important pet fire safety tips:

πŸšͺ Include pets in your fire escape plan – Practice with your pets so they’re familiar with exits.
πŸ• Keep leashes and carriers by the door – This helps you grab them quickly if you need to evacuate.
πŸ”₯ Use flameless candles – Pets can easily knock over traditional candles with their tails or paws.
πŸ’‘ Secure loose wires and appliances – Curious chewers can spark a fire without meaning to.
πŸ“ Post pet alert window clings – These tell firefighters how many pets are inside your home.
πŸ”’ Confine young pets when you're away – Use crates or pet-proofed rooms to reduce fire risks.
🧯 Know where your fire extinguishers are – And make sure you’re comfortable using them.
πŸš’ Plan who grabs which pet – In multi-pet households, assign each person a pet in emergencies.
πŸ”” Test your smoke detectors regularly – A working smoke alarm can save both human and animal lives.
πŸ’Š Have a pet emergency bag ready – Include food, meds, vet records, and comfort items.

❀️ Your pets rely on you just a few small steps can make all the difference in keeping them safe.

From all of us at City of Newport Animal Control, stay safe, stay prepared, and give your pets some extra love today. 🐢🐱🐰

🚨 Important Update 🚨

This week, our Animal Control Officers are attending mandatory training and will not be available to set out traps or respond to calls. We appreciate your understanding as they complete this essential training to continue serving our community.

🐾 Our shelter is currently over capacity and cannot accept any additional dogs at this time. We understand how hard this is and are doing everything we can to care for the animals already in our care.

πŸ“’ We will post all the dogs we have for adoption or rescue as soon as they come off stray hold.

πŸ“ž If you have a dog that needs to be surrendered or picked up, please call or message us. We will add you to our waitlist and contact you as soon as we have space available to take them in.

Thank you for your continued patience, support, and compassion.
