We had a successful meet up in PA yesterday! It was a very quick decision to go right away, so I wasnt as prepared as I normally am and forgot my camera, but enjoy this short video of their first meet!

This update is long overdue and I apologize for the lack of activity here. I am better at adding updates on my website. The following post is to hopefully give some insight into the struggle of breeding, and to explain my absence.

To be honest, its been a pretty frustrating time. I am so small scale that it really almost feels silly to call myself a “breeder” sometimes. But at the end of the day, I am dedicated and thorough in my goals and its really disappointing and frustrating when others dont consider the effort, time, money, mental stress that goes into planning litters. There is already a serious lack of breeding dogs in the US, and its only going to get lower thanks to the difficulty of importing dogs from other countries. When trying to choose a suitable stud, go through all the effort of planning, talking with interested buyers, going through endless questionnaires, answering dozens of messages and emails, ensuring health testing is up to date, communicating with the registries, all just to then have the stud owner cease contact out of nowhere, or decide at the very last minute that they're not available to breed (like, ghosting until the start of the bitch's heat cycle, no room to plan something else). Or just ghosting altogether without a word. Its disrespectful, and there were several times I considered giving up because of the difficulty of simply maintaining contact with studs who seem to consider this a fun game they can drop whenever they feel like it. I refuse to hunt people down. I shouldn't have to. Its not difficult to respond to an email, to send a text, to give me a heads up of some sort. Meanwhile, I have to contact all interested buyers to tell them its not happening. I have to cancel vet appointments. I have to take down announcements. I have to give up a heat cycle and wait another 6 months minimum for new plans, knowing we are limited because of age. What happens if we get farther along in planning before the stud ditches? Progesterone testing is $160 a test, every 2 days! Brucellosis test is $300. It takes nothing to rack up bills well before a litter is whelped.

Its /hard/ and its disheartening. I really considered giving it up. Why should I stress over this all the time? Why should I feel disrespected? Why should I waste my time trying to keep contact if someone isnt going to take it as seriously as I am?

Because I love this breed. Thats why. I love it with my whole heart. I love the versatility, I love the temperament, I love the structure and appearance. I love that we are working towards healthy dogs. Good dogs. I want to keep going. Because I want others to experience this breed too. I want others to fall in love like I have.

I was contacted by a member of the COB with a recommendation for a stud, and we got talking. The dogs are very compatible, the owner is so nice and understands wholeheartedly the amount of work that goes into breeding. They have been incredibly helpful and accommodating. We had a setback where Erza's heat was delayed 4 months and we have powered through despite it.

We are now at the start of Erza's heat, two progesterone tests in. I dont foresee a pairing until end of next week at the earliest, but the plans are set. We are really hopeful for a successful pregnancy this time. I wont open the applications until a pregnancy is confirmed, and I likely will still be slow to respond to inquiries for the next couple months while we navigate through these breeding plans.

Should everything go to plan, this litter will likely be born the end of October. I will continue to update my website, so feel free to follow along there.

Good morning everyone, I wanted to post an update to all the happenings here at Kaiza and our current and future plans.

We are still looking for a suitable home for Atreyu, and due to time restraints on his current owner and her situation, we will likely be taking him in next week. We have a public application for him that can be filled out any time on our website for anyone who is interested. (UPDATE: home found)

Next, we originally had plans to breed our foundation female, Erza, this fall, but because we are taking in Atreyu now, and because she is due to come into heat within the next month, we have decided to postpone our breeding plans in order to focus on finding the right home for Atreyu. I understand this is a disappointment for people waiting for puppies, but it is only fair to give priority to the animals that are already here, and they will always come first.

With that said, I will also note that Erza will be 6 next January, with her next heat in March. This will be the final attempt at a second and last litter with Erza. If things do not align for a pairing, or the pregnancy does not take, she will be retired and spayed. Typically my morals dictate 5 years as the max age I like to breed a female, but because Erza is such a fabulous dog, easily one of the best dogs I have owned, and her puppies have been equally wonderful, I have pushed that limit by one year, but that is all I am willing to give. She has also been a difficult dog, timing-wise, the last several attempts, so unfortunately, I cannot even promise the next attempt will be successful either. I am hopeful, but also realistic.

We do, however, have plans to have both Nezuko and Kuma health tested this next year, and, assuming their testing comes back well, we will carry on with Nezuko, while offering Kuma as an outside stud, since studs in the US are so limited, particularly in this area. So although Erza may retire before a second litter, all is not lost, and the Kaiza name will carry on with her offspring, hopefully as soon as next fall.

We appreciate all of those following us, and we are sorry to have to postpone again, but it is what is best for us and our dogs.

Nezuko, Kuma and Asuna (all from our 2022 Anime litter) participated in another precision coursing event in MA this morning. Nezuko earned her RACEN title, and completed the first leg of her Advanced title. Kuma earned his RACEN title but unfortunately missed the final turn on his Advanced run and went over the fencing and was too nervous to run again at that time, so we decided to forfeit that run.

Asuna is ahead of Nezuko and Kuma, having earned her RACEA title today!
