Good morning everyone, I wanted to post an update to all the happenings here at Kaiza and our current and future plans.
We are still looking for a suitable home for Atreyu, and due to time restraints on his current owner and her situation, we will likely be taking him in next week. We have a public application for him that can be filled out any time on our website for anyone who is interested. (UPDATE: home found)
Next, we originally had plans to breed our foundation female, Erza, this fall, but because we are taking in Atreyu now, and because she is due to come into heat within the next month, we have decided to postpone our breeding plans in order to focus on finding the right home for Atreyu. I understand this is a disappointment for people waiting for puppies, but it is only fair to give priority to the animals that are already here, and they will always come first.
With that said, I will also note that Erza will be 6 next January, with her next heat in March. This will be the final attempt at a second and last litter with Erza. If things do not align for a pairing, or the pregnancy does not take, she will be retired and spayed. Typically my morals dictate 5 years as the max age I like to breed a female, but because Erza is such a fabulous dog, easily one of the best dogs I have owned, and her puppies have been equally wonderful, I have pushed that limit by one year, but that is all I am willing to give. She has also been a difficult dog, timing-wise, the last several attempts, so unfortunately, I cannot even promise the next attempt will be successful either. I am hopeful, but also realistic.
We do, however, have plans to have both Nezuko and Kuma health tested this next year, and, assuming their testing comes back well, we will carry on with Nezuko, while offering Kuma as an outside stud, since studs in the US are so limited, particularly in this area. So although Erza may retire before a second litter, all is not lost, and the Kaiza name will carry on with her offspring, hopefully as soon as next fall.
We appreciate all of those following us, and we are sorry to have to postpone again, but it is what is best for us and our dogs.
