IMPORTANT NOTE: The shelter is open daily from 8:00am until 5:00pm for owner surrenders, stray drop-offs, and owner re-claims. If staff is not available at the front desk for any of these needs, simply call the number on the door, and a staff member will be happy to assist you. The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) is a unique collaborative supported by four separate communities: Newport Ne

ws, Hampton, Poquoson, and York County, Virginia. This new facility physically embodies each area's dedication to its citizens and to homeless animals. As a result, the shelter will provide necessary resources and services to the citizens of each jurisdiction in terms of education, adoption, outreach, and animal care. These services are represented by the three goals of the shelter's mission: Rehome, Reunite, and Reeducate.

Hi there, My name is Autumn. I am a 3 year old free spirited, whip-smart Pit Bull looking for my forever home. I am a sweet and energetic girl that is partially housebroken. I will bark or whine to let you know I need to go out, but sometimes I just can’t hold it. I am also a smarty pants that has learned how to open doors, so they should stay locked if I am roaming free. I have lived with dogs, cats and guinea pigs that I loved. I am also a lover of all humans, big and small. I love baths, play fighting and snuggles on the couch. We’re thrilled to share an update on Eden (formerly known as Biscuit) 🍪, who found his forever home on June 9th 💕. His adopters say:

They say good things come to those who wait — and River’s story proves it! 💛

The day River’s mom came to the shelter, she had her heart set on meeting another dog. But by the time she arrived, that pup had already been adopted. Rather than leaving disappointed, she decided to wait and meet River instead… and it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened for them both. 🐾

Now, River is living her absolute best life — spoiled rotten, loved beyond measure, and truly home. 🏡❤️
