Thanks to the support of animal lovers like you, we have become a safety net for the Peninsula’s most vulnerable pets. The Peninsula SPCA spends over $100,000 on medical care for shelter pets every year.

As a private, nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter, we rely solely on community donations to operate. We receive no public funding and rely on the community for support to keep the benefit of an adoption-guarantee shelter alive for the Virginia Peninsula community’s citizens and pets.

Yes, the Peninsula SPCA Barnyard & Petting Zoo is one of the many attractions you can see with an Ambassador Pass! Since our hours vary depending on weather, staffing, etc., please call 757-595-1399 to confirm. If we do happen to be closed when you stop by, Ambassador Pass holders will receive a free pass to use later this year!

Gracie 2008-2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved llama Gracie. She was the QUEEN of the barnyard, watching over all of the residents and keeping everyone in line. If you’ve met Gracie you would know she had a big personality and loved welcoming visitors. She also loved having her photo taken. She was an expert at photobombing and could be seen craning her neck to be in a photograph. She didn’t always respect personal space, and knew no strangers. You could often find her napping in the barn or out in the paddock sunbathing. She was a big fan of neck scritches and she would really get excited for Cheerios. She was the barnyard boss lady, the hostess with the mostest, and Her Royal Highness. Most of all, we all adored her and miss her dearly. Good night sweet, Gracie!

Adoption fees only cover a small portion of costs that the Peninsula SPCA faces every day to provide the best care for our animals. In fact, the Peninsula SPCA spends approximately $100,000 on medical care for shelter pets every year. This year especially, the Peninsula SPCA spent an additional $20,000 on testing and treatments when canine influenza closed our kennels for over 4 months.

❤ $500 Helps save a life by providing a specialty surgery for a shelter pet suffering a life-threatening or chronic condition

Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for the community to take a moment from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season to celebrate generosity and the gift of giving back. On this Giving Tuesday, we are asking for your help to provide much needed medical care to pets who come to us in need. We spend more than $100,000 on medical care for shelter pets every year. ​​​​This year especially, the Peninsula SPCA spent an additional $20,000 on testing and treatments when canine influenza closed our kennels for over 4 months.
