“I saw his picture on the Cups & Claws page and instantly fell in love. I went to the café the very next day to meet him... and the rest is history.

Ozzy (formerly Titan) is with me no matter what I’m doing. He wakes me up with morning kisses on the cheek and is always ready for bedtime snuggles. Between that sweetness and the chaos of him playing in his tunnels, life is never boring!

At home, we have an older cat, Ginger, to keep him company. And let’s just say, our house turns into WWE every night. The two of them LOVE to wrestle, and Ginger seems so much younger now with Ozzy around.

Did you know - Cats showing their butts can be a sign of trust and affection, or a way to mark you with their scent. They may be saying hello, wanting attention, or feeling comfortable enough to expose a vulnerable area. It's a normal behavior between cats and can be interpreted as a sign of friendliness and acceptance. Cats are more likely to show their butts to people they trust and feel comfortable with. This is because their rear end is a vulnerable area, and they wouldn't expose it to just anyone. Cats have scent glands at the base of their tail, and they use them to mark their territory and establish social bonds. Showing their butt can be a way for them to mark you with their scent, letting other cats know that you are part of their group. So next time your cat shows you their butt, consider it a friendly hello!

Adoption feature: After the heartbreaking loss of one of our cats, Rascal, we knew it might take a while to adopt another. That is, until we noticed how lonely our other cat, Benny, was getting, and we decided he needed a new friend. I took a trip up to Cups and Claws and saw Sandman - he was definitely not interested in seeing me. He stuck to the high ground - sitting upon the highest shelves in the cat lounge, and running as fast as he could if you got too close. When I brought my fiancé in to meet him, Sandman actually ran across a small shelf (or maybe just one that couldn’t support his size) and we thought he would plummet to the floor. The gasps from the guests clearly embarrassed him. My fiancé turned to me and says “He’s perfect. We must have him.” The rest is history!

Our lives have definitely changed for the better - Sandman is a funny guy. He has interesting mannerisms. He has definitely taught us a lot about being patient. Since he came from a hoarding situation, he wasn’t too sure about us at first, so we had to work hard to build that trust with him. It honestly feels very rewarding to have earned the trust of our Sandman.

We think that Sandman doesn’t totally know how to be a cat. He had no idea what we were doing when we tried to pet him at first. So the moment that stands out the most is when he finally learned that us reaching down wasn’t to hurt him, but just to give him some loving pets. He now flattens himself on the ground when he wants to be pet - I’m not sure if he knows he doesn’t have to do that, yet. We love Cups and Claws. Thank you for trusting us to adopt Sandman ❤️

After Zoe's exploration at Cups and Claws Cat Cafe Newport News, her mother (Kathryn) was excited to share the growth she saw in her daughter. Kathryn discussed how the exposure the program gave Zoe was critical to her growth in confidence, and summed up her feelings on CK's READY program with "You guys are a gift to the community.”
