At OC Dog Trainers we do not use e-collars or shock collars of any kind to train our dogs or our clients dogs. While it may expedite some training and behavior modifications there are are a plethora of downsides to using an e-collar for dog training. Some of these are:

Can harm your dog;

E-collars can cause painful burns, increase your dog's heart rate, and cause psychological distress.

Can damage your relationship with your dog;

E-collars can cause your dog to fear you, which can negatively impact your relationship.

Can create long-term behavioral issues;

Dogs can become desensitized to the stimulation and may need higher levels to get the desired behavior. They can also associate the e-collar with receiving a shock.

Not more effective than humane training:

Positive, reward-based training is significantly more effective than punishment-based training.

Quality matters;

Low-quality e-collars can be very shocking for dogs, and the jump from one level to the next can be alarming.

Not recommended by experts;

Veterinary associations and humane organizations advise against using shock collars
