Holiday Hours Notice

Coweta Animal Hospital will be closed this Friday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, July 7th.

If your pet experiences noise and/or storm anxiety and needs a refill of medication, please call us at 770-253-8013 or request a refill through the PetDesk App.

Please make sure to submit your refill requests by Wednesday, July 2nd, to ensure they are ready for pickup by 5 PM on Thursday, July 3rd.

April is National Heartworm Awareness month!

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.

So, how do pets become infected with heartworms? It all starts with a mosquito that feeds on an infected dog, fox, coyote, or wolf and later feeds on another dog, cat or ferret.

Studies have shown that more than 1,000,000 pets in the United States have heartworms. The fact is that heartworms are easy to prevent but difficult to treat. For that reason, the American Heartworm Society recommends that you “think 12:” (1) get your pet tested every 12 months for heartworm and (2) give your pet heartworm preventive 12 months a year.
