RABIES IS REQUIRED FOR BOOKING BY LAW

A dog in northwest Spalding County (near the Fayette County line) has tested positive for rabies after being treated at a local veterinary hospital for neurological symptoms.

The dog died after receiving treatment and was sent to the Georgia Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine for testing. The lab confirmed the positive test result on May 28.

Kelly Wilson, Spalding County’s environmental health manager, said she urges everyone to take necessary precautions to protect themselves, their families, and their pets from contracting rabies, a deadly preventable virus that spreads most often through the bite of an infected animal.

The two best ways to avoid rabies exposure are to stay away from unfamiliar dogs, cats, and wild animals, and to make sure pets are current with their rabies vaccinations. Additionally, we will charge $25 for small dogs, $35 for medium dogs, and $50 for large dogs with matted coats, reflecting the extra time, equipment damage, and strain on our staff. We encourage pet owners to maintain their dogs' coats through regular brushing to avoid this charge. If necessary, we offer additional services like mini-grooms or brush-outs for a fee. We appreciate your prompt payment and understanding. Invoices may be sent before appointments, but payment is due upon service completion.

Hi everyone. I understand everyone’s frustrations with reschedules lately. We had one van down with a bad coolant leak, still having some issues with it, & the cold snaps have caused us to lose some water pumps. We are working as hard as we can to get our vans back on track & everyone back on the schedule as best we can. We can only groom so many dogs in a day, like home builders can only build so many homes. One van being down a month has been detrimental to our survival & we are doing the absolute best we can. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we get everything sorted out as quickly as possible.
