This time of year in rescue can be bittersweet for some. This is the time of year that we refer to as " return your pet season" or " dumping season." It is when people are preparing for their new young and cute pet and don't feel that they have room for their old pet who was no doubt once one of those. It breaks our hearts to see these sweet old souls confused and depressed on the streets wondering where their families are. Please, do not get rid of your pet just because they got old and can't keep up like they used to. A pet is for life, and they deserve to stay in a warm home in their final days.
This is also a time that pets that have passed on are greatly missed. It can cause an emotional struggle for many people. The other day, we received a large donation of goods from someone who's pet recently passed away. As we went through everything, there was something we noticed. The love they had for this pet. They had all the basics, of course, but also so much more to ensure that their pet in their old age and declining health was as comfortable as possible. This actually warms our hearts 💕 the goal is always to put animals in homes where they will be well loved until the very end.
This holiday season, remember your beloved pets that have passed fondly. Take care of the ones you currently have greatly. As for future pets, be sure to enjoy every moment with them.
