Meet Forrest Gumbo. When we saw how sweet of a boy he was and how much he loved getting chest rubs and people, we knew we couldn’t leave him there. He had been there for 6 weeks after coming in as a stray, and unfortunately, he was also heartworm positive.
We decided to take a chance on this sweet boy and pulled him from the shelter with a wonderful foster so that we could get him the treatment he needed and give him the second chance he deserved. ❤️
When we brought Gumbo to the vet to start his heartworm treatment, the vet checked a large lump on his backside . Unfortunately, we learned that it was a cancerous mass and this was more life threatening than the heart worm 💔.
With all the love and hope in his eyes, We didn’t hesitate and Gumbo underwent surgery to have the cancer mass removed to try and get as much of it as the doctor could get. While we know there is a possibility that the cancer may eventually return, the doctor said removing the mass bought Gumbo more time, potentially a few more years of life that he wouldn’t have had otherwise. 🥺❤️
We were blessed by Suzanne and Mike at Coco's Cupboard, Inc.who generously donated the medication Gumbo needs to treat his heartworm which otherwise would have been costly. His cancer mass removal surgery and other medical care have cost over $1,300.
We know times are tough, but if anyone deserves a second chance it’s sweet Forrest Gumbo. He is the sweetest little guy in the world and so happy all the time despite the major surgery he had and being in the lonely shelter for over a month and a half . He was hopping and skipping around happily within a couple days of surgery and is doing great now and he may even have an adopter willing to give him a wonderful home despite his possible prognosis ❤️.
