Ginny was adopted from our shelter in December of 2023.

Here are some kind words from her adopter:
"It’ll be almost two years ago that I saw a photo and description of a sweet black dog named Ginny. On the Newman Animal Shelter’s page, and it was love at first sight. Her calm and gentle personality, and the fact that she loved to cuddle, sounded like the perfect match for our family. My oldest daughter is on the autism spectrum and struggles with socializing and often feels lonely. I hoped that bringing a pet into our home might help her feel more connected, encourage her to go on walks and be more active in her life, and bring more joy into her days. Of course, the idea of adopting a dog was intimidating—we knew it would be a big responsibility—but we also felt that it could be the start of something really special.

Carrie, one of the amazing shelter volunteers, was so kind and supportive. She patiently answered all of my questions and even offered us a foster-to-adopt option, which made the process feel less overwhelming. Thankfully, my gut instinct was right. Ginny quickly became a beloved member of our family. She has brought peace, love, and a companionship that has helped my daughter (and all of us) in more ways than we could’ve imagined. She truly is the perfect fit for us, and I’ll be forever grateful to the shelter for giving us the chance to find her. She is now living her best life."

Clear the Shelters is HERE! $20 ADOPTIONS!
Luna was adopted in March of 2024.
"Before we adopted Luna, I would like to share a brief history. When we first met Luna, it was an immediate connection. We relocated to Salida from Hayward approximately two years ago. Prior to that, we had two rescue dogs: a brindle Pit Bull named Dallas, who passed away from kidney disease about five months after our move. She was 11 years old and had been healthy until then. Our other dog, Rihanna, a Blue Nose Pit, experienced health issues including severe allergies and cancer.

Our granddaughter, suggested that we consider adopting another dog. She searched and found Luna, then contacted Carrie. She was adorable and small at that time. Carrie kindly provided a homemade dog food recipe that we mixed with Luna’s kibble, a practice we continued until recently due to Luna’s multiple allergies to various proteins.

On her first night with us, I initially tried to have Luna sleep in an orthopedic dog bed next to our bed, but she cried, so she ended up sleeping between my husband and me on our bed. Both she and Rihanna have continued to sleep with us. Luna now enjoys a cozy spot on our bed.

The adoption process was straightforward and convenient, especially since we completed it online while residing in Salida. After bringing Luna home, we named her Cleo (short for Cleopatra). She has a wonderful personality—she loves watching television and barks at animals and scenes of violence on the screen, showing her dislike for aggressive content. She often sits in a recliner love seat beside my husband and is protective of her spot. She also comfortably naps in my home office on a small couch while I work; she is there at this very moment as I respond to your email.

We are grateful that we listened to our children and adopted Luna. I believe that Rihanna’s life was positively affected by Luna’s presence. Luna, or Cleo, learned to use the dog door from Rihanna and helped teach her good social behavior. They often cuddled, and we enjoyed taking both of them on walks. Rihanna passed away last August at age 13, and I am thankful to have Cleo now, as she continues to bring us immense joy.

Bon Bon was adopted from our shelter in January of 2023. She was wandering in the field between Nob Hill and True Blue Vet for a couple of weeks before we were able to capture her in a trap. She was completely shut down and severely matted. She never showed any signs of fear aggression, but was frozen in fear. This adopter put in the work to help Bon Bon the best she could and finally gave Bon Bon the confidence to be herself. This took several months of patience and time given from the adopter, she is a true gem!
Here are some kind words from her adopter:
"Watching Bonbon (FKA Bonnie) slowly come out of her shell after her ordeal living on the streets of the Central Valley at only 1 yr old has been heartwarming. She was shut down, completely terrified of people, when I first met her. It did take a lot of work, from a lady who specializes in fearful dogs, to turn her around. And we have been building on that ever since. She is an absolute pet now, who just loves to accompany me on big hikes and needs her beach time every week. Bonbon loves nothing more than running around outside but she has also learned to just chill inside with my older dog too. It’s been a rewarding experience, and she has taught me so much, most especially that patience is key! Thanks to Animal Control in Newman and the shelter who sponsored her adoption, as well as Angela at Deserving Dogs and everyone who’s supported us along the way, I look forward to many more years of adventures with Bonbon."

LUCKY AND SALEM WERE LEFT BEHIND AFTER AN EVICTION AND NEED FOSTER ASAP!
These two babies are scared to death and have no idea what is going on. They were left behind after an eviction and are desperately searching for their new home. We have spoken to their owner, and they have tried to take Lucky and Salem with them, but it is not possible at this time. We had to set a trap inside the home to capture the kittens as they were hiding and too scared to come out.
They are approximately 1 year old and both females. We will be scheduling their spay and getting them vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas.
Please consider fostering one or both of these sweet babies. The summer weather we are having makes our temporary cat holding facility extremely unsafe for them.
