ABOUT US:
JByrd Nurseries LLC was established in 2013 by Paul Richards who has a diverse and extensive background in the green industry. He comes to the market with not only a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design from the University of Maryland but also the experience of growing his own successful design/build landscape business for over 15 years. This expertise gives him the added knowledge and insight into the challenges landscape contractors, architects, and designers face today. Since 2006, Paul has made his mark in the industry through his superior customer service in nursery consulting – helping his customers by specifying and supplying plant material and hardgoods to fit their specific needs and contractual budgets. Customers frequently ask Paul, "Why JByrd?" The answer is quite simple. The company is named to honor his father, Jack Elias Byrd Richards. The family surname "Byrd" is a name Paul always wanted to use in his business. Jack was born in a small town in Georgia and in later years, worked for the FBI in Washington, DC. He became a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. and rounded out his career as an electrical engineer with NASA's Earth Sciences Division at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. He always instilled the qualities of hard work, honesty, and integrity in everything he did. Jack is still going strong, retiring in 2017 after 57 years with NASA and has been consulting with them ever since. Paul has always admired Jack's work ethic. His traits are what JByrd Nurseries is built on and strives to achieve every day.

Hot, dry weather changes more than just digging conditions.

When the ground becomes hard and dry, how plant material is handled before digging can directly impact root health, transplant stress, and long-term performance in the field.

In our latest blog, we break down why experienced growers take extra steps during summer digging conditions — and what contractors should ask suppliers during periods of extreme heat and dry weather.

Keeping a landscape project on schedule starts long before install day.

Pricing is easy—availability and timing are what actually keep a job on track.

When material isn’t confirmed early, delays, substitutions, and last-minute scrambling
can slow everything down.

This new blog breaks down how JByrd helps contractors coordinate sourcing, confirm availability, and keep projects moving from the start.

Pricing is easy. Availability is what matters. ...

Pricing is easy. Availability is what matters.
If you’re sourcing material for a job, you can absolutely check pricing online—but that doesn’t always tell the full story.
Inventory shifts. Timing matters. And what’s available today may not be tomorrow.
That’s why sending a plant list helps you:
• confirm what’s actually in stock
•understand what needs to be sourced
• make sure everything lines up with your schedule

Not all wholesale nurseries are the same.

When you’re sourcing for a job, it’s not just about price—
it’s about getting consistent material, reliable availability, and plants that actually perform in the field.

The right partner helps keep your project on schedule—and your installs looking right long after you leave the job site.

If you’re evaluating suppliers (or thinking about switching), this is worth a quick read.
