Dr Friedmans latest article....

Had an off day today, a little bit of a bug, so I retired to the couch to sleep it off. Dr Dasaro took the dogs outside so they could get into trouble more conveniently, and the house was nice and quiet.
A half hour into my nap, I felt little cat feet tiptoeing up towards me. It was the youngest, Pickle, and he had a head start on the others. The ultimate goal was about to be his.
I was sleeping on my side with my knees drawn up a little. The most precious spot for a cat to sleep is behind his human's knees. He controls the whole house this way; the human has his back, he has a great lookout spot, and nothing is better than a nap with your person. He sighed, gave a half yawn-half meow, and settled down to sleep.
An hour later Midgie appeared. He had been off wandering in the basement, hoping for a mouse. When he got up on the couch, he shot a hard glare at Pickle. It would be almost impossible to dislodge him without my help, and I believe in first rights. Midgie gave it some thought, and came up with a plan. He climbed up on my shoulder, and settled down curled up in my tummy, just on the other side of my legs from Pickle, but a continent away. From here he sent daggers at the younger cat, signifying that while the back-of-knees spot was overall better, the front-of-knees spot was excellent, close to the human's heart, and he was spiting him but good.
The other cat ignored the whole situation, and we slept peacefully until the dogs came home. From there it was hysteria, recriminations, and threats, as the cats and dogs got into a brawl, and had to be escorted to neutral corners through the house.
The point of the story: you are never alone, for better or for worse.
How do your pets nap?

The staff at Newburgh and All Creatures Veterinary Hospitals are organizing a fundraiser for the family of our friend and coworker Alex Bennett. Her husband Steve has been hospitalized with complications after a liver transplant and they need help. Steve served our community as a volunteer firefighter and with the Orange County Hazmat Team before falling ill. Please consider joining us to support a great family who have sacrificed for the safety and well-being of our community.
