๐พ Protecting Your Pets During Smoky Conditions ๐ซ๏ธ๐ถ๐ฑ
Smoke from the Canadian wildfires can affect more than just peopleโit can also impact our pets. Even if they seem healthy, poor air quality can make it harder for them to breathe.
Here are a few ways to help keep your furry family members safe:
๐ฟ Limit time outdoors โ Keep walks short and avoid strenuous exercise until air quality improves.
๐ก Stay inside when possible โ Keep windows and doors closed, and use air conditioning or an air purifier if you have one.
๐ง Provide plenty of fresh water โ Staying hydrated can help support your petโs respiratory system.
๐ฎโ๐จ Watch for signs of smoke irritation:
โข Coughing
โข Sneezing
โข Wheezing or noisy breathing
โข Eye irritation or excessive tearing
โข Lethargy
โข Difficulty breathing
โค๏ธ Take extra precautions if your pet is a puppy, kitten, senior, brachycephalic breed (such as Bulldogs, Pugs, or Persian cats), or has heart or lung disease.
๐จ If your pet is struggling to breathe, collapses, or shows severe respiratory distress, seek veterinary care immediately.
Your pet may not be able to tell you the air is bothering themโbut they count on you to keep them safe. Stay indoors when you can, and donโt hesitate to give us a call if youโre concerned about your petโs health.
