Meet Louie. ❤️🐾

At 12 years old, this is Louie’s very first boarding stay away from home.

Like many families, his owners were a little nervous about how he’d do. That’s completely understandable. Leaving your dog with someone new is a big step.

A few days later, I found him stretched out on the deck, soaking up the sunshine like he’d been here all along. ☀️

One thing that’s had me smiling is watching him randomly snap at flies that get a little too close. 😂 He reminds me of a tiny crocodile… completely relaxed one moment, then snap! the next.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. Watching a dog settle in, feel safe, and let their personality shine is one of the greatest gifts of home-style boarding. ❤️

Every dog has their own little quirks. ❤️

Lulu always waits for me at the end of the hallway.

At first, I thought maybe she wasn’t allowed in the bedroom. So I asked her owner.

It turns out, she doesn’t like walking on slippery floors at home either. She even avoids the tile hallway and won’t go up the stairs.

Once I understood that, it all made sense.

I never force a dog to do something they’re uncomfortable with. I simply meet them where they are.

Lulu waits for me, and when I’m ready, we continue our day together.

Getting to know each dog’s little habits is one of my favorite parts of home-style boarding. Sometimes what looks like hesitation is really just a dog saying, “This is what feels safe to me.” 🐾❤️

Some of the sweetest moments aren’t the playful ones. ☀️

Sometimes it’s just two best friends soaking up a little sunshine together.

Lulu and Diddums have been together their whole lives, so it’s important to me that they can stay together while they’re here, too.

They spend their days exactly how they like… exploring the yard, relaxing in the sun, and checking in with me whenever they feel like it.

Home-style boarding isn’t just about having a place to stay.

It’s about keeping routines familiar, friendships together, and making dogs feel like they’re right at home. 🐾❤️

Ben had already claimed his spot with the crew by the time this photo was taken. ❤️

Luna was the first to welcome him with play, and before long they were running around together like old friends. Ben carried himself like the gentleman of the house… always wanting to know what everyone was doing and keeping an eye on the girls.

By the end of the day, everyone had found their place. Some were ready for a nap, some were still keeping watch, but the house had settled into that calm, comfortable feeling I love seeing.

It’s one of my favorite moments in home-style boarding… when a group of strangers quietly becomes a pack. 🐾

Luna has one of those faces that always looks like she’s thinking about something. ❤️

When she first arrived, she had plenty of energy and wanted to play with everyone. Before long, though, she found her favorite bed, curled up, and started watching the room instead.

One of my favorite things about boarding is seeing that transition. Dogs don’t relax because someone tells them to. They relax when they feel safe.

Every dog settles in at their own pace, and I try to honor that. Some are ready to play the second they walk through the door. Others take a little time before they fully exhale.

By the end of her stay, Luna had made friends, found her routine, and looked right at home. 🐾

One of my favorite moments isn’t when everyone’s running around…

It’s when the house gets quiet. ❤️

After playing, exploring, sniffing every inch of the yard, and making new friends, everyone eventually settles into their own favorite spot.

Some choose a dog bed.

Some stretch out on the rug.

Some stay close enough to keep an eye on me.

They don’t all rest the same way, and they don’t have to.

My goal isn’t to make every dog fit into the same routine. It’s to create a space where each one feels safe enough to truly relax.

A tired dog is wonderful.

A dog who feels safe enough to fall asleep in someone else’s home… that’s the kind of trust I never take for granted. 🐾❤️

Every once in a while, someone decides the camera belongs to them. 😂❤️

I was trying to get a nice picture of Luna relaxing…

Ben had other plans.

One second he was across the room. The next, all I had was a giant nose and a wagging tail filling my camera.

Dogs have a funny way of reminding you to stay in the moment. Sometimes the best photos aren’t the ones you planned… they’re the ones that make you laugh.

(Don’t worry… Luna still got plenty of attention after Ben’s surprise photo bomb.) 🐾

Every dog has their own way of enjoying the day. ❤️

Kovu wants to know what I’m doing.

Lexi is convinced there’s something fascinating to sniff.

Luna is quietly taking it all in from the background.

Same deck. Same moment. Three completely different personalities.

That’s one of the reasons I love home-style boarding. Dogs aren’t expected to fit into a one-size-fits-all routine. They can explore, observe, play, rest, or simply hang out nearby.

When dogs feel safe, their real personalities shine through.

And getting to know those personalities is one of my favorite parts of the job. 🐾

There isn’t much better than seeing a dog who feels completely at ease. ❤️

Ben spent the afternoon playing with his friends, exploring the yard, and checking in with everyone.

Then he found his favorite shady spot on the deck to cool off and simply enjoy the day.

That’s one of the things I love most about home-style boarding. Dogs don’t have to be “on” all day. They can play when they want, rest when they need to, and move at their own pace.

Every dog has a different idea of the perfect day.

My job is to make sure they have the freedom to enjoy it. 🐾

Five dogs.

Five favorite spots.

One peaceful afternoon.

Lexi stretched out on the rug. Ben claimed his corner. Luna curled up on the bed. Zazu settled in nearby. And Kovu, as usual, chose his kennel… his favorite little hideaway that always stays open.

Watching dogs go from meeting each other to completely relaxing is one of my favorite parts of boarding. Every dog settles in differently, but when the house gets this quiet, I know they feel safe.

That’s always my goal… not just a place to stay, but a place where they can truly relax until it’s time to go home. ❤️🐾
