Hello,
Here at Oak Grove Veterinary Clinic we would like to pass along some information in regards to a current canine respiratory illiness with an unknown cause. This new illness is being detected in many states across the US.

The patients with this illness are testing negative for many of the respiratory pathogens that we would normally consider with these symptoms. While this is not a reason for panic- it is a time to be observant and aware of your dog's enviroment and increased risk factors, especially in areas of dog to dog contact. If your pet has exposure to pets outside of the household, such as dog parks, kenneling, boarding, obedience classes or grooming, we recommend keeping them up to date on immunizations- especially Bordetella (Kennel Cough) and Canine Influenza Virus which protect against other known upper respiratory illnesses that can also be common this time a year where dogs come together in group settings or high dog traffic areas.
Symptoms to watch for:
- Coughing that doesn't get better on its own after a week or so
- Sneezing
- Nasal or eye discharge
- Lethargy
- Trouble breathing, especially if straining with abdominal muscles**
- Blue or purple gums (due to not getting enough oxygen**).
**Immediate emergencies
If you think your pet is sick, seek veterinary care and avoid animals that do not live in your household until your pet has been examined and you have veterinary recommendations. If you have questions about your pet's health, please call the clinic #231-652-2939.

1/3/22 UPDATE: ADOPTED
Pumpkin
8 yr old spayed female.
Lab mix.
Pumpkin has been here since July when she was found living in squalor. She has adjusted well and likes everyone she meets. Her appearance is a bit rough around the edges but she is a lover. Pumpkin is particular with other dogs and seems indifferent with cats. Can someone make Pumpkins the happiest dog this Holiday season and adopt her??

Hello everyone and happy fall,
We wanted to reach out, because surprisingly with this fall weather we are seeing an influx in ticks and tick diseases. Lyme disease has been in our area for the last few years, but more recently we have been experiencing dogs and horses with anaplasmosis. It is important that your pets stay on a good quality flea and tick prevention program. For horses, most fly sprays also kill and repel ticks (please check the labels to confirm on each fly spray and follow directions for application) as well as checking daily for ticks (under mandible, legs, and under tail are common tick attachment areas). Disease symptoms can vary, but most commonly we are seeing sympoms such as lethargy, decreased appetite, and fever.

Also a reminder to please have your pony, donkey or horse vaccinated for EEE as soon as possilble if they have not already received their annual vaccine this year.

Hello,
We hope everyone is healthy and doing well. Due to recent events, we are limiting care here at the clinic to ill and injured animals and will resume routine preventative care and elective surgeries in the future. We wanted to include some happy news in this post, so here are pictures of the four new lambs born here at Oak Grove Veterinary Clinic. Please feel free to share pictures of your animals at home.
