Associated Humane Societies is the oldest and largest animal welfare organization in NJ and is dedicated to provide quality care and sanctuary to homeless animals until loving homes can be found for them. We provide animal control services, humane education & animal adoption/surrender services & animal cruelty investigations. We also operate a low cost Mobile Spay/Neuter van. We are opened seven d

ays a week from 9:00am-6:00pm. Our adoption hours are 12:00-5:00 seven days a week. All interested parties must complete an adoption application as the first step in the adoption process. All prospective adopters must present a valid driver's license, proof of home ownership or, if you are a renter, a copy of your lease or notarized letter from your landlord stating that pets are allowed on the premises. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards and cash. No checks will be accepted.

…so how is it that he went home from the biggest adoption event of the year only to spend another night in the same kennel? 😢

🐾 At just 1 year old, Tyson has already spent nearly a quarter of his life in the shelter. He’s dog-friendly, may be a great match for a family with kids, and he’s already neutered and ready to go home. 🐶 Tyson has everything he needs except the one thing he wants most—a family of his own.

What an incredible day! 🎉

Our biggest adoption event of the year was a huge success, and we’re thrilled to share that 34 pets found loving homes with wonderful families!

A heartfelt thank you to Best Friends Animal Society and Walmart for helping make this event possible. It was a day filled with fun, smiles, and meaningful connections with our community in a way we’ve never experienced before.

We are so grateful to every staff member, volunteer, and foster family who helped make this event a success. And to everyone who came out hoping to welcome a furry friend into their family—thank you! Your support changed the lives of 34 beautiful animals and gave them the fresh start they deserve. ❤️🐾

AHS kennel renovation starts tomorrow! 🚧🐶

Starting June 1st, AHS will be giving the dog kennels a much-needed renovation, and to do that we need to move as many dogs into foster and rescue as possible!

But we can’t do this without your help! The renovation cannot happen while so many dogs are still living in the kennels.

That’s where you come in! Please consider temporarily fostering a large dog (40–60 lbs) for 2–4 weeks while we improve the space they call home 24/7.

Big boy Reed has found his perfect match! His new mom took the time to get to know him, visiting several times and showing patience and understanding every step of the way. Their bond grew stronger with each visit, and now it’s official!

Ivory is about 2 months into her adoption journey without an adopter in sight! 💔

That’s almost 8 weeks of hoping, waiting and missing out! 😥 Despite Ivory being the first thing prospective adopters see through the windows of our free roaming room, there have been no takers for this social, affectionate and gorgeous kitty! Ivory is about 4 years old, spayed, and ready to leave the shelter behind for good! 👋
