AHS-Newark is a non-profit, humane society serving numerous counties in the state. We provide animal control services, humane education & animal adoption/surrender services & animal cruelty investigations. We have a veterinary clinic on premises to treat client & shelter animals. We also operate a low cost Mobile Spay/Neuter van. We are opened seven days a week from 9:00am-6:00pm. Our adoption hou

rs are 12:00-5:00 seven days a week. All interested parties must complete an adoption application as the first step in the adoption process. All prospective adopters must present a valid driver's license, proof of home ownership or, if you are a renter, a copy of your lease or notarized letter from your landlord stating that pets are allowed on the premises. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards and cash.

Kyra’s pool game is next level! 💦 At 5 years old and tipping the scales around 100lbs (give or take a few 😄), Kyra is an XL Bully with an even bigger personality. She loves nothing more than splashing around and creating her own whirlpool — this girl owns the water!

Kyra has dog-friendly potential with other large dogs and is incredibly gentle with her favorite volunteers. She’s also a toy enthusiast — plushies, squeakies, and everything in between.

We believe Kyra would thrive in a home with teens who can keep up with her big energy and even bigger heart. 🧸🐾

Sweet Red Boy is a 7-year-old small bully mix who came to us as a lost dog. Since arriving at our Newark shelter, he’s shown signs of struggling to go to the bathroom, and despite our vet team trying multiple treatments, nothing has worked. 💔

Red Boy is desperate, and this situation is beyond what shelter medicine can handle. Our shelter is overwhelmed with pets needing intensive care, and Red Boy desperately needs a rescue partner to step in. 🙏

We are offering a $150 rescue stipend to support the organization that steps up for him. This little guy deserves a chance at relief and healing—and right now, rescue is his only hope.

Our Story

AHS-Newark is a non-profit, humane society serving numerous counties in the state. We provide animal control services, humane education & animal adoption/surrender services & animal cruelty investigations. We also operate a low cost Mobile Unit for Spay/Neuter/Wellness which services nearby municipalities. For further information, call 973-824-7080. We are opened Tuesday- Sunday from 9:00am-5:00pm. Our adoption hours are 12:00-4:00 (Tues-Sun). All interested parties must complete an adoption application as the first step in the adoption process. There is an adoption fee of $200.00 dog. Cat adoption fees are $100.00 for kittens under 1 year and $65.00 for cats over 6 months. All animals will receive all shots, spay/neuter, testing, microchip identification and flea/tick treatment. All prospective adopters must present a valid driver's license, proof of home ownership or, if you are a renter, a copy of your lease or notarized letter from your landlord stating that pets are allowed on the premises. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards and cash. No checks will be accepted.
