Rowan wasn’t loud or demanding. This big brindle Mastiff waited quietly in his kennel every day, greeting volunteers with soft eyes and a slow tail wag — even while fighting a simple, treatable cough. He was the kind of dog staff called a “heart dog.”

But with overcrowding and limited space, Rowan was placed on the at-risk list. A volunteer shared his video, hoping someone would see what they saw in him.
