Walking into Whiskers Holistic Petcare store in 1992 transformed my understanding of and eventually (2005) my career trajectory.

I had no preconceived notions of what was good or bad in pet food - there was NO internet - no NOISE from brands and bloggers and influencers. It was me, a type 1 diabetic who understood the impact of food on EVERY aspect of my life, and my ex-husband who as a singer, claimed that everything he consumed impacted the condition of his voice so bringing home a pet from the shelter and having been handed a bag of seemed a bit odd to me - I didn't understand how an could digest and be 'ok' eating cereal (I added chicken broth to the kibble the first week because I really thought it was meant to be moistened and made into mush - I very quickly switched to Pet Guard and Halo canned food - Remember those brands?;)

The contamination was found after a Washington County house cat died from consuming raw frozen pet food contaminated with H5N1, or bird flu.

None of us can out run a poor diet and there is no magic pill to fix the problems often created by poor dietary choices. Dogs being fed diets low in moisture, highly processed, ladened with starches and poor quality fats are often the same dogs that have chronic itching, ye**ty skin conditions, pruritus/allergic dermatitis/atopic dermatitis. Most pet owners are offered apoquel and or cytopoint for these conditions and many are also offered "prescription" diets to help relieve these conditions.
