Black pearl oysters- a hybrid species developed in Japan, the genetic lineage of this mushroom has been a topic of mystery and debated since it first appeared the US.

The lab that bred the black pearl oyster originally listed it as a cross between two different species of blue oysters mushrooms, but its appearance led to speculation that it was actually part trumpet mushroom.

Genetic sequencing recently confirmed that it is indeed a cross between a blue oyster and a trumpet mushroom, and this combination makes it a versatile, delicious species that we always have in our rotation!
