Manhattan ACC Cat Volunteers: The Cats that Capture our Hearts

Manhattan ACC Cat Volunteers: The Cats that Capture our Hearts This page was created by Manhattan NYCACC volunteers to celebrate the love we share for the MACC cats. We hope it helps them find loving homes.

As volunteers and fosters, we hope to bring our experiences with the cats at Animal Care Centers of NYC to those who may want to adopt, foster, or rescue them. These are personal stories shared from our time spent with the cats. We are not experts or professionals in cat behavior. We are cat lovers that dedicate our time to caring for stray and abandoned cats needing homes. We fall in love every d

ay. We care about the cats, we dote on them, we worry about them. We welcome you to join us in helping them to find their forever homes. To Adopt a Cat from NYCACC

A nice pair of twins at the Manhattan Care Center: Yukiani #255198, 6 year old spayed gal and Yuki #255197, 6 year old neutered male, not housed unfortunately in the same kennel or a double kennel.
Yukiani and Yuki, two six year old siblings, a gal and a gent, are the perfect pair surrendered to us as their owners were going through difficult times(the owner did not die as I said erroneously in my video). They were beautifully cared for, two sweet and shy souls who will open up fully once in a home they can call their own. Yukiani is said to be a friendly and affectionate lap cat, very playful and particularly fond of her brother Yuki. He would feel the same toward her. Yukiani started as a shy gal when we first met but then, oh surprise, started to play like there is no tomorrow. We both enjoyed this burst of joy and carefreeness....Yuki is more reserved although his owner describe him as an equally playful cat, something he still has to show us at the care center. All together, both Yuki and Yukiani are awesome cats who yes could be adopted separately but having them both under a same roof again, might be a double pleasure for their new family and such a blessing for them. Both cats are great, beautiful, healthy apparently(even the teeth), did well on their behavior evaluation and are already spayed and neutered, ready to go home with you....TODAY. Come meet Yukiani and Yuki at the Manhattan Care Center!

Caramelo #253546 is 6 year old, an intact male part of a 14 cats household that all needed to be surrendered. He does not behave at all like he is part of a hoarding case. He is very sociable, friendly, outgoing and called "an absolute delight" by the veterinary team. He spends his time in our cat community room. Lovey, a female his age was VERY taken by him. She was rescued and he is now alone, appreciating every visit he can get as well as treats of course. Caramelo is a Level1 cat, well deserved. He has a 1-2/6 heart murmur and bilateral lower lid entropion. The plan is to do the entropion with the neuter but he is sick with URI now and with the heart murmur, I am not sure that he will be neutered. Meanwhile, his entropion is making him quite unhappy. It must not feel too good to have your eyelasheds brushing against your cornea and potentially causing ulcers.I hope that soon enough a decision will be made to do surgery...or not. Adopters will not adopt such a cat and he would need to go to rescue. Caramelo is really a great guy!

One of the many seniors e have at the Manhatan Care Center:DAMU #92577, 11 year old neutered male, owner surrender.
Damu is a handsome and well groomed senior, a Tuxedo who has been beautifully cared for by his former family who owned him since kittenhood. Life changes lead to Damu being surrendered to the care center. Damu is said to love being loved. He would be friendly, loves to be loved, well mannered, smart, gently playful and all together a nice cat with all. His former owner describes him as purrfect!I met Damu the day after his arrival at the care center. He was very sweet, a little shy but trusting, coming for pets and leaning his head into my hand, even purring softly. He looks a little sad now(I hope it is temporary), not eating much and may be realizes that he lost all what really mattered to him:his people and his home. Damu is already neutered, looks great and active, did very well on his behavior evaluation, is apparently healthy (he does have senior teeth though), has a normal senior panel and could go home today, with you, as your very own beloved best friend. Ask to meet Damu when you visit us at the Manhattan Care Center.
Damu is a truly very gentle and affectionate kitty. He seems sweeter and sweeter each time I meet him. He did have some vomiting and was placed on Select Protein diet. No vomiting observed anymore. He really needs to find a home. He is a very good cat!

Missy #254445 is an 8 year old(owner says 12) intact female relinquished at the MACC as her owner was too ill to take care of his/her pet. She is said to be a slightly shy gal who needs time to warm up(we did not see that at all, on the contrary), a friendly and affectionate lap cat good with everybody. She used to live with a cat who passed away. Missy is super friendly and it needs work to take pictures of her as she all the time wants to be petted and be close. Although there is a history of occasional LB accidents since the passing of her housemate, Missy has been using her LB at the shelter. She is VERY thin(4.11lbs), not so well kept, looks older than 8, had a great appetite but did not gain weight since her admission 10 days ago. She was of course dx with URI and her appetite went down tremendously. She does have a 2/6 heart murmur but has good teeth. Her senior panel is surprisingly normal. I am quite worried about this elderly sweetheart. She needs to go home and one that will really care for her. Doubt she ever saw a veterinarian...Her behavior evaluation is Level2* as a little shy.

Another special needs kitty:BILLY #253008-1 year old intact male-6 lbs-possible head trauma. ataxia.
Billy is a young and brave little guy, possibly the victim of a car accident. He was found, immobile, on the side of a road and brought to the Manhattan Care Center by a Good Samaritan. Beside being underweight(do not worry, he is gaining weight), sweet Billy had some abrasions, some fractured teeth, decreased vision in his right side and was wobbly, something that is slowly getting better. Billy is a trooper! He is eating well, uses his litter box, goes up and down his balcony and ambulates in his kennel. He is amazingly sweet, loves company and cuddles, does not seem to be scared of anyone or anything and is just great company! He of course, aced his behavior evaluation. Billy is very much liked by everybody here at the care center and you might fall in love too if you come and meet him in person. It is unknown if Billy's wobbliness will completely resolve with time but our adoption counselors will discuss the matter with you if you consider making Billy your forever best friend. Billy is waiting for and dreaming of ...you..

A young cat with a disability, a sweetheart..
W***Y #252410 is a 2 year old gal, a friendly stray brought to the care center by a Good Samaritan. She had a severe right sided glaucoma with buphtalmos. She was otherwise deemed healthy. SNAP negative. 5.10lbs. She underwent a R sided enucleation on 4/23 as well as a spay and after a few days in the medical room, is in adoptions. There is a concern for cataract and possibly retinal detachment in the remaining eye but W***y needs more diagnostics. She seems to have some vision. From day1, W***y has been such a good gal, so friendly, so sweet and is quite a friendly kitty with a happy disposition. She loves to come in the arms, on the lap, play and be cuddled. She uses properly er litter box and eats well. W***y is quite a pretty gal too, very endearing and would make a lovely pet to the right person used to visually impaired pets or willing to learn how to make their life a happy one. I am hoping that the right person will come along or a rescue group with a good foster.

A very sweet lady with a medical issue:
Angie(253070) pulled at my heart strings the moment I opened her kennel door. I loved her fuzzy pastel coat, her blurry eyes, her petite size and mostly her gentle and trusting demeanor. Angie is a dame of a certain age who was surrendered into our care because of housing issues. A quiet, friendly and affectionate pet she was with all but never mingled with other cats or dogs. Peaceful Angie is welcoming in her kennel, comes quickly for pets, enjoys some treats and is all together a very easy going lady. I know she would not mind coming into my arms or onto my lap. Angie(who was seeking pets from the veterinary team!) was found to have a neck mass(possibly a neoplasia or less likely a cyst) that does not seem to be uncomfortable or impede her breathing and eating(as a matter of fact, she gained a little bit of weight). Sweet and lovely Angie is hoping to meet a giving adopter who will bless her with a safe, caring and loving place to live happily and comfortably for the rest of her life. Angie is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.

Sunburst(252878) is a 10 year old unspayed female, a very pretty Tortie found in a carrier in the hallways of an apartment building, clearly let go by a tenant. A Good Samaritan brought the friendly gal to the Manhattan Care Center. Sunburst is pretty as can be, soo welcoming, gracious, elegant and very affectionate. She has perfect manners. She did very well on her behavior evaluation, waswell behaved upon intake and with the medical team. Sunburst in in the adoption ward in an upper cage where she is not easy to see but does it really make a difference? She is 10 (she looks like a 2 year old) but she mostly has a 2-3 cm multilobulated mass on the right cranial MG chain. When I am at the shelter, I give her all the love I can, special treats and food but I am very worried. Adopters understandably want cats and dogs in mint condition. She would need a biopsy, likely some labs and if the biopsy is positive for cancer....
She is such a good cat and sooo pretty and sweet.

Flash 252874 is a Zen Cat, an amazing 10 year old neutered gentleman who is with us as his owner recently passed away. He is shy at first but then comes the trust and he is all out for his visitor. He even plays with a feather wand. We do not know anything about his past but he shares his life presently with another cat in our community room without any problem. He has senior teeth which is expercted, he is FIV and FeLV negative and is not diabetic but a full senior panel was not done. Flash is a great cat who will make a new owner so happy to have him asa pet. Video by Taylor:https://youtu.be/AHuZCiCE66k?si=Tjzw5RDbRZBQY3xn
