My little girl passed after a surgery, could anyone give me any clarity about why?
My little girl, a mutt/pitt mix who just turned three earlier September, passed away last week. She had been diagnosed with Addison’s disease a year earlier. when she started vomiting Monday morning, I just kept a close eye on her and decided I’d run her to the vet the next day if she couldn’t keep anything down. She woke me up that night at 3am with some foul smelling vomit and completely undigested food, which scared me cause she needs to take two prednisone a day for her Addison’s. So we went to the emergency vet since I thought she might have an intestinal blockage, which was like 40 minutes away cause every closer one i called said they had an emergency and wouldn’t get to her quickly.
At the emergency vet they gave her some pain killers and hydrated her after getting an xray, which the vet said did show a possible blockage but they weren’t 100%. Honestly we waited there for HOURS, maybe six or seven, before they called her primary vet and sent us there for a surgery. Another round of x rays and blood work when we got there confirmed they did at least want to do an exploratory surgery. So I left her there and paced around the house for a few hours till about 5:30pm when I got their call. Went to pick her up, they said it was a blockage and they gave me her special food, meds, instructions on what to do, then brought my girl out… she looked horrible, wobbly and her abdomen was stapled and bloody, I was so scared just looking at her but they said that was normal, and she was leaking this brownish saliva… when we were walking out to the car, she took the step down to the road kind of hard, and when I was getting her in and out of the car I’m so scared I was too rough with her and broke her internal stitches, I tried to be gentle but I’m not very fit and she was limp and so hard to lift
When we got home, I laid down some towels, a bed and some potty pads in the kitchen and gated it off so my other pup wouldn’t bother her, then let her rest. At least… I thought she was resting, I checked on her then I took a two hour nap since I had been up all day. When I got up, I found my girl in a puddle of brown vomit, passed away alone on the kitchen floor. This was at 10:30pm that same day.
Can anyone tell me what could have happened? Was it my fault, did I tear her stitches? It’s too late for a necropsy, she’s buried now and I couldn’t have put my beautiful girl through that anyway.
