Backwood Kennels Family Raised Pitbull and American Bully dogs, bred to be high energy family companions with an emphasis on health and beauty.

We are a family based kennel that breeds blue and red ADBA registered pitbulls outside of Fort Smith, AR in a town called Huntington. We breed to better the American Pitbull Terrier, breeding family pets for beauty, temperament, protection, and athleticism. We do NOT condone ANY type of dog fighting. Each of our dogs are ADBA registered with full 7 generation pedigrees with champions in the bloodline.

📜 Bloodline Legacy: From Pit to Bully

Ancestor: Grey Line Kennels’ Notorious Juan Gotty 🐾

Around 2015, we put down a deposit on what would become Backwood Hero. At that time, the ADBA only registered dogs as American Pit Bull Terriers (APBT). But by the time Hero was born, the game had changed.

The ADBA made a pivotal decision: any dog descending from Notorious Juan Gotty would now be classified as American Bully. Since Hero was a direct descendant, our productions officially transitioned from APBT to American Bully.

Juan Gotty, born in 1997, was a UKC-registered APBT—a purebred Pitbull. But his legacy reshaped the breed. His offspring began to show wider chests, thicker bone, and more muscle mass—traits that would define the American Bully.

With over 900 offspring, Juan Gotty didn’t just sire dogs—he founded a movement. 🏆
