Deep within a silent Mississippi forest, where sunlight barely reached the ground, a lone dog lay pressed against the earth. She didn’t run when help came near. She didn’t cry out. She didn’t even lift her head.
Her body was weak, her movements slow and uncertain, as if every ounce of strength had already been used. There was no fear left in her—only deep exhaustion. The kind that comes from waiting too long and hoping in silence.
She had been abandoned far from roads and homes, in a place where voices disappear and footsteps are rare. It felt deliberate, as though she had been left where no one would see her… or hear her.
Blind, starving, and barely breathing, her fragile frame told a story of days passing without care—of survival driven not by hope, but by sheer endurance.
There was no fight left in her. Only the will to hold on.
Later, she would be named Halo. But in that moment, she was simply a soul clinging to life, facing a struggle no living being should ever endure alone.
