Havanese Rescue Inc.

(HRI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed for the charitable purposes of rescuing purebred Havanese and Havanese mixes that are homeless or soon-to-be-homeless, including those found in animal shelters or similar facilities and those relinquished by their owners. The dogs are provided with the attention, care and medical treatment necessary including spay/neutering. HRI also focuses on t

he education of the public regarding puppy mills and responsible dog ownership including spay/neutering, training and humane care of Havanese and other pets.

Mayari is a sweet and affectionate girl who gets along with most anyone she meets. She is especially smitten with her foster dad!

Mayari is very gentle and loves to snuggle, a typical Havie.

While we are not sure if she likes toys yet, she seems happy with the dog and cat in her foster home.

Miss Mayari is prone to bladder stones and they are being addressed with food and surgery. She will require a strict diet for life.

Mayari is being fostered in Florida.

Bogie is very sweet and friendly. He loves to be near his people and observe all the happenings in the home, but also enjoys a little activity, too. A good walk or romp with his brother fits right into Bogie’s idea of a perfect day.

He also enjoys meeting people and making new friends. Bogie gets along well with other dogs and cats.

He would be very happy in a quiet home with a fenced yard and a perfect companion for a senior citizen.

What Bogie does NOT enjoy is being left alone. This loyal little guy gets pretty upset when the person he is bonded to leaves the house. He gets quite vocal in this situation, but generally calms down quickly. We are working on this behavior and his new family will have to continue to work with him to let him know it is ok for them to leave. Patience and consistency are key.

Bogie is being fostered in Michigan.

Zeus is an adorable, lovely dog with an amazing disposition. He is smart, high-energy and always seems to be on high alert and aware of everything that is going on in his surroundings.

Zeus loves people and wants to socialize with people more than other dogs. He adjusted to his foster home in just a day and now sleeps with his foster dog siblings in the bed at night. He likes other dogs, especially big dogs, but prefers to be with people.

He has no experience with cats or children under the age of 10, so we do not know how he will interact with them.

Zeus has found a lot of things to love in the world. Topping his list are being with people, going on walks, getting belly scratches and chasing his many favorite toys when you throw them. He isn’t interested in playing fetch, however, so teaching him that would add a new dimension to his life.

When he is in a new environment, Zeus may mark his territory, so keep a watchful eye on him the first time he enters a new location.

Soft and cuddly Zeus will be a wonderful addition to a household with people who love him.

Zeus is being fostered in California.

Theo is a typical puppy with lots of energy and goofiness. He is also very affectionate and loving.

He enjoys playing with his toys and his foster sister. Hide and seek is a favorite game with chasing squirrels coming in at a close second. Both activities are good exercise for this active pup.

He is enjoying educational and challenging toys, kongs, silicone mats frozen with peanut butter. These are great for indoor time during Summer heat.

Theo needs a canine sibling to interact with in his forever home as well as a securely fenced yard.

Theo is great with dogs, men and women but has not been exposed to children under 10 or feline friends during his time in our care.

Theo would benefit from some one-on-one professional training to get a firm grasp on house, crate and leash training. He also likes to chew which needs to be corrected. Nothing a little patience and perseverance can't cure. He seeks approval which is helpful in training.

Theo also has some separation anxiety. He responds best with a person at home with him as this is reassuring to him.

Theo is currently being fostered in Virginia.

Charlie in WA – ADOPTED/HAPPY BEGINNINGS

Personality: friendly, curious, gentle and cooperative
Special needs: Charlie has epilepsy. Now his seizures are well-controlled with his present daily oral medication. His last seizure was reported in March.

Charlie is a wonderful Havanese pup. He brings joy to his foster home every day through his lovely personality.

Charlie is leash trained, crate trained and housebroken.

He is good with other dogs, men, women and children.

He loves a walk on his leash and a run around the yard with his Havanese friend.

Charlie stays near his foster family and will follow his humans around. He loves to hang out on the couch and chew his bully stick.

He is a slow and careful eater which requires some planning if there is another dog around.

Charlie would do well in a quiet home with a mom or dad who is willing to take the time to give him his medicine daily.

Charlie is being fostered in Washington State.

Finley in IN – Adopted/Happy Beginnings

Needs: separation anxiety, house training, and barking

Finley is an energetic two-year old pup who loves to go on his walks. When the zoomies hit, he loves to run around the house, jumping from couch to floor and around the room as fast as he can!

Finley loves his days to be filled with action and activities, and he can create his own if necessary. Pulling a towel down from the towel rack and proudly dragging it around the house before bringing it to you to show his skills, is one way he can keep himself occupied. He also loves his toys and will throw them in the air and try to catch them.

Finley loves to explore and is in almost constant motion. He may stop by for a quick pet and to give you a kiss or two before he is off on his next mission. Cuddling is not Finley’s game, Finley has places to be and things to do, he can’t let cuddling slow him down. He can be very entertaining to watch and will certainly make you giggle. However, it will be imperative that his new owners understand his energy level and his need for focused outlets like daily walks and interactive play time to keep everyone happy.

Finley’s foster home does not have children or cats around, so we cannot say how he will do with either. Finley does do well with the other dogs in his foster home though he doesn’t really try to engage them in play.

Finley does have some training needs that his foster parents are working on, but that will need to be reinforced in his new home. Finley is not fully house trained. Daily walks are helping with this, but he will need additional help as he transitions into a new home.

Finley also has some separation anxiety and has an extreme dislike of crates. Finley will need some help with his separation anxiety in his new home. However, overall Finley would be much happier in a place where someone is home most of the time.

Finely has a very high-pitch, shrill bark that is also very loud. His foster parents are working with him on not barking in the house, but Finley’s bark will prohibit him from a placement in an apartment or condo situation.

Finely is being fostered in Indiana

Yanni in SC – Adopted / Happy Beginnings

Yanni may not play music like his namesake but he is equally entertaining and charming! He is an affectionate Havanese who loves chasing his ball and loves his family. He will even zoom around the living room having fun.

He is currently in a foster home without cats, dogs, or small children, so it is unknown how he will react to a family with these.

Yanni has moderate exercise needs, and his foster family thinks he would do best in a home that has older and considerate children or maybe a home with seniors.

He is leash and house trained. He is going to need some work on leash training as he is very curious and loves his walks. He also needs some work on crate training.

Yanni loves his belly rubs!

Yanni is currently being fostered in South Carolina.

Simon in VA – Adopted/Happy Beginnings

Dear little Simon is a gentle and goofy guy. He is very sweet and affectionate.

He loves to go on walks, explore the outdoors and play fetch with any toy.

He is respectful of his foster brother and loves to be close by to his foster parents.

He is very curious and attentive.

We are unsure how Simon would do with cats or children at this point.

Since Simon is still young, he needs some reminding of what behaviors are acceptable. Like most young pups he can be a little mouthy, but he responds very well to positive corrections. We believe he will continue to learn - he just needs patience and consistency.

Simon is currently being fostered in Virginia.
