🐾 Today, we want to share an important aspect of canine health that many pet owners may not be aware of: the surgical removal of a mass from a dog’s head. While lumps and bumps can be quite common in dogs, it’s essential to monitor any changes. If you notice a growth on your furry friend, especially one that changes in size, shape, or color, it’s crucial to consult your veterinarian. Early detection can make a significant difference in treatment options and outcomes.
Surgical mass removal is typically performed under anesthesia, ensuring your pet is comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure. Post-surgery, your dog will require special care, including rest and monitoring for any changes at the incision site. Remember, your vet will provide guidance on aftercare to promote a smooth recovery. Being proactive about your dog’s health not only enhances their quality of life, but it also strengthens the bond you share. Stay vigilant, and always prioritize your pet’s well-being!

Little Millie came in today for an anal gland abscess.
Most dogs tend to have anal gland issues. It’s completely normal!!
The anal sacs (also called anal glands) are two small structures that are positioned under the skin, one on each side of the anus.
Under normal circumstances, it is released when there is pressure against the anal sacs as the dog defecates.
Oftentimes dogs need help expressing them and that’s where we come in. If you notice your dog dragging its rear end on the rug, trying to bite at its tail or just seems uncomfortable in the back area, it could quite possibly be filled anal glands that need to be released.
If left untreated it can become abscessed and thats where surgery comes in
That’s where we come in.
Feel free to give us a call and make an appointment to have them expressed. Some pets need them expressed as often as every two weeks and some every month!

Stormy is a 3 year old Frenchie who came in to us after having surgery for IVDD-Intervertebral Disc Disease. After surgery, her owners couldn't afford the rehab or to even get her there weekly which ran in the thousands of dollars! With the help of one of our lovely assistants, Stormi frequented our office for love, care and attention and went home with Makenzie on other days. She also was able to go to her rehab and has been doing well!
After a few months, SNORT which is an animal rescue based up North took her in where she lived with others like her and we just learned that Stormi got adopted about a week ago!
IVDD can affect different breeds but is very common in breeds of dogs with long bodies and short legs such as French Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Welsh Corgis and the likes of them.
Like humans, dogs have a spinal cord. Spinal cords consist of nerve tissue that connects the brain to the lower back and transmits nerve signals between the brain and body. Surrounding the spinal cord are bones called vertebrae. In between them is a jelly-like disk, which acts like a cushion.
If a disc moves or becomes damaged it can put pressure on the spinal cord. This condition is what we consider intervertebral disk disease when that cushion — i.e., the disk — either bulges next to the spinal cord because of inflammation or ruptures because it’s damaged. The surgery is expensive but with the help of organisations and rescues a pet can have a chance at a normal life!
We wish Stormi all the best in her new home and hope she will visit us in the future!

Massage isn’t just about making us feel pampered; it benefits us physically and mentally. It focuses on the muscles, tendons, skin, ligaments, and connective tissue in our bodies, is non-invasive, and can be used for various health issues. Massage isn’t exclusive to humans; your dog can benefit from it, too.
Dog massage may help relieve anxiety in dogs, increase circulation, and enhance immune function. It’s also a great way to spot abnormal growths on your dog early on.
