I started rescue 6 years ago because I wanted to help save animals. I wanted to keep them from being given up, abandoned, lost in the system. I wanted them to truly have that forever home.
In those 5 years I have had 5 of these rescues returned or wanting to be returned.
That is for people willing and open to contacting me to let me know and for me to save them again. Of course I have always stepped up to the plate....but it makes me wonder how many that are not within continued care....how many are STILL with the families they were adopted into?
It makes me sad. Depressed. Kinda deflates wanting to help.....
We said we would take Harper back but honestly I still don't even have the situation with the two dogs Fiesty and Max who were left with us under control.
I am very grateful that Harper's original adopter had reached out to other rescues other than ours and they found who immediately by some miracle had a foster for him (and we would not have). But not all rescues have good reputations and care. What would have happened if Harper went to a terrible rescue? (He didn't thank God but what if?!?). Like how do we aa rescuers carry so much of this burden? If I didn't care my mind wouldn't still be thinking about all of these things 5 days after the fact.....
Anyway....I am rambling.
