I’ve always been drawn to tall yet compact birds. One feature I particularly admire is the feather curl at the back of the neck β€” a small detail, but one that adds a lot of character and style to a bird’s overall appearance.

These birds by Peter have all the qualities I love to see: height, compactness, and those beautiful neck feather curls that make them stand out. A pleasure to look at every time.

These are some Asil chicks from my friend Misty in the USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ₯. It's always wonderful to see people abroad taking an interest in Asils and helping spread appreciation for this historic breed beyond its native homeland.

Can you help Misty Hilger out? Looking at these chicks, which ones do you think are males and which are females? Let's hear your opinions in the comments.

The Asil in this specific portrait showcases an extraordinary blend of power and presence, carrying the commanding stance of a true warrior.

Capturing a unique variation of the breed, this particular bird displays a striking "snake gaze" defined by a cold, piercing pearl-white eye set intently under a heavy, muscular brow. Its clean head features a flat, compact pea comb and absolutely no wattles, transitioning into a remarkably straight, towering upright posture that emphasizes its powerful back and elongated frame.

What makes this specimen truly distinct is the tight, rugged skin visible through sparse, deep brown feathers, creating a unique serpent-like pattern that gives the muscular body a textured, scaly look.

This intense build is balanced by an exceptionally long, flowing tail that adds dramatic elegance to its frame, all supported by thick, scaled shanks and firmly planted toes that give it an incredibly stable, grounded appearance. It is a magnificent example of structure and intensity caught in perfect light.

One of the most encouraging things for the future of the Asil is seeing passionate fanciers from outside its native homeland taking an interest in the breed.

This beautiful black Asil hen belongs to my friend Peter
who is helping keep the spirit of the breed alive far from where it originated. It’s always exciting to see Asils being appreciated internationally for their unique history, natural beauty, and distinctive character.

If you keep Asils outside their native countries, feel free to send us your photos, videos, and a little information about yourself and your birds. We'd be happy to feature you and showcase the growing global Asil community. πŸŒπŸ“

Different types of combs seen in game fowls πŸ“

Pea comb, straight comb, walnut comb, cushion comb, strawberry comb, buttercup comb, and spike-style upright combs β€” each type gives a bird a different head profile and overall expression.

Many fanciers pay close attention to comb formation because it plays a big role in the beauty, identity, and character of a game fowl. Some breeders even selectively preserve certain comb styles for generations.

It’s great to see Asils gaining appreciation across the USA and Europe, where dedicated fanciers are keeping and valuing these birds for their heritage, structure, and natural beauty.

This is a beautiful black Asil hen from my friend Peter ( Qaib Kidd ) β€” a perfect example of how native Asil lines are getting recognition internationally for their strong type and classic character.

If you are also living in a non-native country and keeping Asils, feel free to inbox us your details, pictures, and videos β€” we would love to feature your birds on our page.
