There’s a post I never thought I’d have to write…

Many of you knew Gerti, and many of you loved her just as much as we did. What most people didn’t see was the battle she was fighting.

Gerti suffered from something called rage syndrome. A condition that can cause sudden, unpredictable aggression that is completely out of their control. Its incurable. It’s not who she was. It was not because of how she was raised. And it certainly wasn’t a reflection of the love in our home.

Making the decision to put her down has been the hardest decision of my life. We tried, we hoped, and we held on as long as we could. But at the end of the day, we had to make the most selfless and heartbreaking choice to keep everyone safe, including her.

She was still my girl. She was still loving, goofy, and so deeply loved in between those moments we couldn’t control.

My heart is shattered, and I miss her more than I can put into words. Please hug your pets a little tighter tonight.

Rest easy, Gertrude. You were so loved and will never be forgotten 🤍
