I called him ready Teddy almost from day 1. He was just always ready for a good time, always ready for a party. He made us all laugh on the daily. And over the 2 years and 1 month that he blessed us with his presence he truly lived. It is so evident by the pictures.
Teddy came to us with his brother Cooper and they were so very bonded. Always together inside and outside. But as they both got comfortable Teddy just made friends with everyone. I mean so many doggie friends, he had. I think many enjoyed his warm fluffy fur.
Teddy was plagued with a pretty bad collapsing trachea but once we found the proper meds and dosage we were able to keep him pretty comfortable. His favorite thing in the whole wide world or at least in Rusty’s world was our Sanctuary Manager Joyce. He would literally become a crazed maniac in her presence. Jumping as if he were 2 years old instead of 14 and biting at her fingers with his toothless gums to gain her attention. However on Joyce’s off days that boy slept peacefully. It was comical. He literally was obsessed.
As Teddy aged into year 15 we slowly watched the doggie dementia set in but still Teddy was ready he just no longer knew where he was going or what he was ready for anymore. Water bowls were a regular occurrence and it could be just a quick oopsy splash or a nice stand and soak in it.
At the end he kept everyone on their toes. Medicating became very difficult because eating became very difficult. We’ve seen it before, it’s like the dementia makes them forget how to eat.
A couple of weeks ago we decided as a team it was time to let him go. His favorite person, Joyce, was right there by his side. He enjoyed a pup cup and got it all over Joyce in true Teddy fashion.
It truly was an honor for all of us to care for him for just over 2 years. He brought a lot of joy and laughter daily. His brother Cooper is coping well with the loss and adjusting to life without Teddy in it just as we all are.
Until we meet again friend, rest in Paradise handsome.
