Meet Max!

At just 7 months old, Max is exactly what you'd expect from a young puppy-full of joy, energy, and enthusiasm for life. This handsome new arrival to the rescue approaches each day with a happy-go-lucky attitude and a wagging tail.
Max is currently doing well while turned out with a female puppy and enjoys having a canine companion to play with. Like any adolescent pup, he's still learning about the world around him and would greatly benefit from continued training and guidance from his future family.

What a way to celebrate Independence Day!!!

Cheryl has a special birthday coming up—
she turns 6 years old on July 4th, Independence Day. But the greatest celebration of all is that her independence from mill life begins today.

This sweet, gentle girl is ready to discover what it means to be loved, cherished, and part of a family. Cheryl has a calm and kind nature and does wonderfully with children. She also gets along well with male dogs. She would prefer a home without female dogs or small dogs, and her compatibility with cats is currently unknown.

After six years of knowing a very different life, Cheryl is ready for a fresh start filled with soft beds, belly rubs, and the freedom to simply be a dog. Help us give this deserving girl the happy ending she's waited so long to find.

Sassy

Sassy is a beautiful 10-month-old shepherd who is house trained, walks well on leash, and has a sweet, playful puppy personality. She previously lived with children and is currently having a great time here at the rescue playing with her buddy Max.

She was surrendered because she doesn't do well with small dogs, so she'll need a home without them. Still very much a young pup, Sassy is friendly, active, and ready for a fresh start with a family of her own.

Joby was adopted 3 years ago and his pawrents have a great pupdate for him. Here's their report:

We will have Joby 3 years on June 16. He is a great dog. He loves our goats and cat and his side kick Jethro a shepherd hound mix. It's going good. He is very protective. He really does not care for strangers. But will warm up . Walks good on leash. Sits when people pass. Does not have a prey drive. He does like other animals must be the Pyrenees in him . I am his number one. He is extremely tall and long looks like a shepherd. I still am in contact with the brothers owner. We do exchange pictures. Long boy.

What a wonderful Pupdate on Sunka, now known as Buoy. He sure has the life! Here's his pawrent's report:

We are so lucky to have Sunka, now Buoy (“Boo-ee” like the things that float in the ocean) in our lives! When he first came home we jokingly called him a "Night Fury", like Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. Just like Toothless who’d lost his tail fin, Buoy came to us in a cast following surgery on his back leg for a fracture. At first, he was understandably a bit overwhelmed and dysregulated navigating a new life, and the exercise restriction was tough on an 8 month old puppy! We worked hard to tire him out without straining his leg, and to keep his cast dry (not easy since he hated to have his leg touched at the time and we had to take his cast cover on and off for every trip outside).

Now that the cast is off and the restrictions are lifted, Buoy has completely blossomed into a goofy, sweet, and incredibly affectionate boy whose confidence grows every week. He has a great sense of humor, too.

Plus, Buoy has gotten to start the fun part of recovery— rehab! We learned so much about caring for dogs recovering from orthopedic surgery from our angel dog, Falco, who had his leg amputated for osteosarcoma. After he passed away, we thought our trips to the dog pool and rehab vet were over.

But Buoy’s needs brought us right back to the same vet and physical therapist who took such incredible care of Falco, and Buoy has inherited the same love and attention. It is so special to have Buoy working hard in the pool, learning cavalettis, and balancing on the equipment that Falco used to enjoy so much. He also allows us and his physical therapist to touch and stretch his leg, which is incredible progress.

When Buoy isn’t doing physical therapy, he loves to go on pack walks with our friends and their pups (Buoy’s “mentors” as we call them). My sister’s dog, Deimos (who is Falco's biological brother), is his favorite mentor and is actually the one who taught Buoy how to swim 😊

We want to extend a huge thank you to Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue and everyone who donated to help cover the costs of Buoy's surgery. You all made his recovery possible, and we are so grateful to the Char-Wills community!

Here's a furtastic pupdate for Shiloh in his own words. How cute is that? Here's what he has to say:

Hello!

I have been settling in nicely. At times I’m a little grumbly with my big brother but I’m working hard everyday and am doing a little better each day. My new family has kept me busy these first few days with walks around the neighborhood (I sure love all the new smells), a shopping trip to Lowe’s and the local Stauffers garden center, a long with a little dip in the river. I absolutely LOVE playing in the water! 💜 I will be visiting something called the mountains this week for an extended weekend. I’m sure excited to see what they are and smell all the new smells!

Thank you for caring for me until I found my furever family!

Also I was wondering if it would be possible for me to send a thank you card to the nice man who taught me some manners? I thought maybe he would like to hear how great life is going for me. If so could you please send the info to my new mommy to help me send him a card.
