At Remember to Paws, one of the hardest parts of our mission is standing beside families, caregivers, and communities through goodbye. 💔

Yesterday, we said goodbye to sweet Khalia, a beloved VRC dog who was lovingly cared for by a VRC employee who gave her comfort, family, and love in her final chapter.

Please keep Emily in your thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.

If you’ve ever volunteered to walk dogs in the city or toured Claiborne, you’ve likely met Khalia. She was in love with children so she was a real crowd pleaser. Not exaggerating that hundreds if not thousands of people have hugged and walked and pet this girl.

And usually when a hospice or senior spot opens up with me I’m pretty open to whoever needs me. But I wanted Khalia, I asked for her. I knew her for years and felt it was an honor to retire the little show pony. I felt she deserved to retire in the comfort of the presence of an old friend like me.

Because likely she wouldn’t ever be chosen as a pet for someone, she was not dog friendly. A fate that so often meets these otherwise perfect dogs. But she was chosen. And loved and cherished and had a kid of her own in Luna. And a mom in me.

All to say I guess I’m kind of in shock that she’s gone. I can hardly remember life without her in it. My heart hurts and I miss her so much already. I find solace in knowing she is at peace, pain free, and I hope she knows how treasured she was and always will be.

Rest in eternal paradise khaleelee girl💕 I’ll be seeing you.

Last week, VRC said goodbye to sweet Melon. 💔

Melon was a beloved VRC sponsor dog who was deeply loved by so many people, both near and far. Through his sponsors, caregivers, and the community that followed his journey, Melon knew what it meant to be cherished.

• Place their name inside the jar

For a small donation, we will lovingly read your pet’s story live and share their picture while we create your memorial jar.

Together, we’ll celebrate their lives, hold space for grief and healing, and remind one another that every pawprint deserves to be remembered.

The money raised from the jars goes directly to the Remember To Paws Foundation. Which helps cover the end of life costs for pets at Villalobos Rescue Center - Life 4 Paws, Inc. and families and pets in the community.

It has been a devastating Monday at VRC… 💔

It is with a very heavy heart that we share that we lost Wolfgang this morning.
Wolfgang has been a long term resident at VRC, and a beloved part of VRC’s Sponsorship Program.

Wolfgang had emergency surgery a couple weeks ago, and he started slowing down Friday, and his breathing was no longer good. Over the weekend, he declined quickly, and in the way they always seem to tell us when they are ready, Wolfgang let us know he was done fighting. 💔

Wolfgang was one of the sweetest souls to ever come through our doors. He had been with VRC for 9 1/2 years, and I still remember the day he came in. He was covered in bite wounds from dog fighting, but even after everything he had endured, he was gentle and sweet with us. We realized he was most likely used as a bait dog.

He was terrified of other dogs, and loud noises or storms would send him into a fear frenzy where all he wanted to do was run and hide. And yet, with people, he was nothing but love. He constantly wore that cute pit bull smile and found joy in the smallest things, like stopping to smell the flowers on his walks.

Wolfgang was a fighter. He battled so many health issues during his time with us, but even the fighters fall. It will not be the same without him here.

From M2- “I cannot thank Angela enough, one of our employees, who took him home and made him hers at the end of his time. Because of her, Wolfgang got to know the warmth of a real bed, the peace of a real home, and the love of being someone’s dog. Run free, sweet Wolfgang. You were so loved, and you will be missed more than words can ever say.💙”

Remember To Paws is raising donations for Wolfgang’s end-of-life and keepsakes so he can return home to Angela. Our hearts are with Angela and Mariah and everyone who loved Wolfgang at Villalobos, please join us with keeping them in your thoughts during this difficult time.

It has been a heavy day for Villalobos Rescue Center - Life 4 Paws, Inc.

Some stories never leave you.
And Spring… she’s one of them.

In 2021, Spring was found in the middle of a busy highway—broken, unmoving, and barely holding on. Her body told a story no animal should ever have to live through. Over 100 bite wounds. A puncture straight through her eye. Kidneys shutting down. She couldn’t even stand. Vet after vet told us the same thing:
“There’s nothing more we can do.”
But something in her… and something in us… refused to accept that. So we made the call that didn’t make sense on paper. We told them to do everything because sometimes hope doesn’t follow logic… it follows heart and somehow… Spring fought her way back.

She survived what should have taken her.
She stayed. But survival doesn’t always mean healing. Her physical wounds eventually healed but Spring carried invisible scars that never fully faded. Trust didn’t come easy to her and rightfully so. But for the few she chose… she loved deeply and completely. Those bonds were everything.

She became one of our lifers.
One of our Sponsorship dogs.
One of ours.
And so many of you loved her right alongside us. You saw her. You honored her. You gave her the safety this world once denied her.

Which makes this goodbye… that much harder.
This week, Spring started to decline. She became extremely anemic, and we knew something wasn’t right. When we got her to the vet, we were met with news that shattered us, a massive liver mass that had taken over her stomach. It was aggressive. It was inoperable. So we were left, unprepared, heartbroken and
we did the only thing left that love allows you to do…we said goodbye and we let her go.

To her sponsors—her virtual fans, her quiet heroes, thank you will never feel like enough.
You didn’t just support her… you showed up for her. You spoiled her with goodies, comfort, and care.You loved her from afar, but in a way she could still feel. You gave her something she didn’t always understand at first… but grew to trust consistency, kindness, and a world that wasn’t always cruel.
Because of you, Spring didn’t just survive… she was cherished.

Spring’s life was not defined by what was done to her but by what she overcame, and the love she allowed in despite it all.

💜 In honor of Spring, Remember to Paws will be raising donations to help cover her end-of-life care and to continue supporting animals like her, those who carry both visible and invisible wounds.

Before I met Perry and I became a step mom, I was a dog mom, fully and completely.
I can’t have children, so my dogs became everything to me.

People will try to minimize being a dog mom. Many times I was told I couldn’t celebrate or was told that I was crazy if I thought it was even close to being the same.

Of course it’s not the same, but… being a dog mom is an important role.
It’s
• structuring your life around their needs
• worrying when they’re not okay
• celebrating the little things
• loving them through every stage of their life
• and so much more

That’s motherhood.

So to those who have children,
and to those whose dogs are their only children

This day belongs to you too.

Being a dog mom doesn’t make you more or less of a mom.
It doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate.

Because being a mom is about love, and nurturing and making sure you provide safety and stability…
And if you’ve loved something that deeply

you know.

Coming into this week and Mothers Day can bring up a lot of emotions in many different ways.
Just know, we are here for you.
