So we had a little surprise on April 18th, almost exactly 3 years after their mother was born as we headed out to Texas to get Ivory, our Great Pyrenees Anatolian Shepherd.

While not fully unexpected, we weren't positive Leroy bred Kylie before he passed away last winter. We wanted to give our two baby ewes a chance to get through the first couple of weeks of life before we announced their arrival.

Please welcome Mary the little lamb and her sister, Nova.

It will be a month or so before you're likely to see them in the front pasture, right now they are in the barn in a stall with its own paddock.

Also, we're looking for a couple of laying hens, preferably barred rock but open to any hardy layers.

Yep.

Yep.

Most people assume farmers pushed for daylight saving time, but history tells a different story. When the U.S. first adopted the clock change in 1918, many farmers opposed it because crops and livestock follow the sun, not the clock. Share this with someone who still blames farmers for the time change.

Good afternoon, the arctic temperatures this winter were very hard on our elderly sheep this year. We're down to one young sheep and an elderly goat that may possibly be immortal. If you are looking for a "retirement home" for one or two sheep or a large goat, please reach out. We're also looking to add a few more barred rock layers if anyone has any for "adoption." Please reach out via pm.

Thank from the critters and from us for the pumpkins and other fall vegetation that have been dropped off this year! They add some nice variety to their diets and are a natural dewormer for goats and sheep!

New arrival from another local farm today, Calico is a half katahdin, half desert paint ewe lamb. Her job is to mow grass. She's pretty skittish, so give it a few days before she's actively taking treats. :)

If you are near Newland, NC, please consider stopping out and having a photo taken with one of these cute cows at Happy Hens & Highlands Farm LLC, one of hundreds of affected farms, families and small businesses... I have only managed to convince DH to get a Christmas ornament cow, but I'll take it. :)
