Mountain Top Koi

Mountain Top Koi We are a family-run koi farm that strives to produce healthy, Truly High-Quality Koi. I have been keeping Koi for over 15 years now.

We first started selling Koi from our home-based Fish Store in a water trough buried in the ground. As we became more knowledgeable we built a nice pond to keep our fish happier and to give our customers a better look at the fish they were purchasing. As things grew we started buying and selling many varieties of Domestic Koi. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion for me. I started to b

uy and read books and search for everything I could find on the internet. It was becoming an obsession. We moved our store to a new location and installed 5 ponds to sell our Koi from. We did well with the Koi but the economy got the best of us and we were forced to shut the doors. I told my wife, the one thing I didn't want to give up was the Koi. So when we shut the doors on the store I decided to install 12 ponds at home and start breeding my own Koi to sell. We now have over 50 ponds with plans to add even more! Our long term goal is to produce High Quality Koi and eventually one that wins Grand Champion at a U.S koi show. But in producing the high quality, you also produce every other grade of koi. therefore we have koi for all levels of keeper from the new hobbyist to the serious koi kichi. We have also attended Koi shows and have numerous awards to show for it. I have also joined the WWKC or World Wide Koi Club. We have extended out knowledge through online college equivalent courses to become a Koi Veterinarian. I have completed level one of three and have certification as a Professional Koi Keeper. We hope to be able to supply you with that one fish that just BLOWS you away.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the koi Mom's out there. We will be open from 1 pm until dark today.
We will be giving all Mothers a free Water Lettuce plant to decorate their pond. Water Lettuce are excellent at absorbing extra ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates and provide shade and cover for your koi. Hope to see you all later today!

This is why I quarantine any new koi coming into our farm from anywhere before they are offered for sale or introduced to any of our koi.
If you look closely at the bottom center of the video, you will see very small circular objects that look like they are vibrating. This is Costia, a parasite commonly found on koi but can be fatal if left untreated! I will treat these koi today and within a couple days they will be back to 100%. But, they will not be offered for sale for another two weeks or until we find that they are happy and healthy and ready for a new home!

So, on our trip to the distributor yesterday we were able to purchase some VERY sought after Tosai (koi hatched last summer). I have been waiting for this particular shipment to come in. It is Aokiya Koi farm. Aokiya koi farm is the originator of Kikokuryu and Beni Kikokiryu. This equates to them producing the BEST Beni Kikokuryu in the world. They have also created what they call the Yellow Dragon. An amazing new variety that has gained a huge following and demand. We were able to procure a number of both of these varieties. We will be raising some of these for a year to make choices for future broodstock and the others will sell as larger koi. We will be offering the other small koi available to purchase after a brief quarantine period.
We also purchased some Jumbo Tosai from a new farm that our distributor started buying from and WOWSERS! They are amazing koi and we will be growing these out to a larger size for potential breeders and some to sell.
Here is a short video showing what we grabbed.

So, yesterday we were closed for business to enjoy a day off. A day off?? Ha Ha Ha!!! We don't get days off on a koi farm.
We actually made the trip to our distributors for dry goods and Imported Japanese koi. We had a bunch of filters and such we needed for customers jobs and of course to look at some new koi.
Many farms in the U.S advertise the fact that they have not brought any new koi onto their farm for numerous years for bio-security reasons which I understand. Bringing in new koi always has its risks of bringing in unknown disease and possibly a virus. However, when I started breeding koi my goal was to produce koi at a quality that could compete with Japanese Imported koi. The only way to do that for me is to constantly increase the quality of my brood stock as finances allow it. I started out buying low end Japanese koi and the results showed that fact. As time has passed and the business has grown I have slowly been able to increase the quality of our brood stock but to also diversify the varieties of koi we produce.
So, yesterday was a trip to vastly increase the quality of a couple varieties that are considered some of the most difficult to produce in a truly high quality. We were able to purchase new bloodlines of both Sanke and Kohaku from the two most dominant breeders of those varieties.
We purchased a Sakai Sanke female which will be spawned with two Momotaro male Sanke.
We also purchased a Dainichi Kohaku female which will be bred to a Ginrin Yagenji Kohaku male and a Torazo Kohaku male.
Both Sakai and Dainichi have won the All Japan koi show NUMEROUS times and are known for jumbo genetics and amazing quality.
We also purchased several Butterfly koi to increase the number of those produced on the farm as well.
We also purchased 35 more Tosai to offer for sale and hold back some to grow to larger sizes to sell and potential brood stock for the future.

Please refrain from bringing your beloved pets to our events. We have 4 large dogs that are AMAZING with people but certainly protect their territory from other animals. We appreciate your understanding!!

We are on again today!! We will not be doing a pond pull but we have a lot of REALLY nice koi already in the retail ponds waiting for their new homes! Koi prices start at just $10 but we also have koi that would contend at koi shows available for purchase!
Even if koi are not your thing, stop out for some AMAZING BBQ for $20 a self serve tray including a beverage.
Hope to see you all today on this beautiful sunny day!
