Our Story

Our story began in 2010 when our 3-year-old dog, Hunter, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. We were told he had six months to live and were given the option of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. We decided not to take the recommended action and instead sought the advice of Dr. Hannah Wells, a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Wells prescribed a mix of Chinese herbal medicines and a recipe for Hunter, which Paul prepared each day. With Dr. Well’s guidance, Paul taught himself everything he could about holistic pet health and canine nutrition. He told his buddy, “If you keep living, I’ll keep cooking.”

Determined to help others have healthier pets, Paul and Lynn opened Paul’s Custom Pet Food in 2014. Today, the couple works with pet owners, veterinarians, and pet nutritionists to prepare food for companion animals. We source the highest-quality, restaurant-grade ingredients from farmers and small businesses, organic and local if possible. Paul makes all food by hand. Paul and Lynn sell food direct to consumer at farmers’ markets and deliver it personally, getting to know both pets and their caretakers by name.

Sadly, Hunter passed away in June of 2019. He was almost 13 years old - ten years past his initial diagnosis and death sentence. Today he lives through the food Paul creates for other pets, and in the business Paul and Lynn created in his name. Paul now extends the promise he made to Hunter to your pets.
