Rue welcomed her beautiful litter on Mother’s Day, and we could not be more excited! It has been over a year since our last litter, and we truly appreciate everyone who has patiently stayed on our waiting list and continued to follow along with our program.

We have received many questions regarding availability, so we wanted to provide an update:

At this time, we have one male and one female available from Rue & Finley’s litter.

As always, we carefully screen prospective owners to ensure they understand the commitment involved and the nature of the breed. German Shorthaired Pointers are incredibly intelligent, loyal, and energetic dogs that thrive in active homes and with families who can provide the exercise, training, and attention they deserve.

We are also excited to share that Dolly’s litter is expected in less than 10 days! We already have a waiting list that began last year for her upcoming puppies as well.

If you would like more information about Rue’s current litter or Dolly’s upcoming litter, please feel free to reach out. We are always happy to answer questions and help match our puppies with the right homes. ❤️

Why do we remove dewclaws and dock tails on German Shorthaired Pointers?

The practice comes from the breed’s original purpose as a hardworking hunting dog. German Shorthaired Pointer were developed to run thick cover, fields, brush, briars, and heavy terrain for long hours.

Tail docking
GSPs have long, thin tails that are constantly moving while hunting. In heavy brush, those tails can split open or become severely injured — often called “happy tail” injuries. Once damaged, tails are difficult to heal because they continue wagging and reopening the wound. Docking at a young age helps prevent painful injuries later in life for active working dogs.

Dewclaw removal
Front dewclaws can catch on fences, brush, crates, or rough terrain. A torn dewclaw is painful and can require veterinary treatment. Removing them early helps reduce the chance of injury, especially for highly active sporting dogs.

These procedures are typically done when puppies are only a few days old (which why Rue & Finley’s litter was done yesterday), before nerve development is fully mature, and they recover very quickly.

While some owners prefer a natural tail and dewclaws — especially for companion-only homes — docking and dewclaw removal remain traditional practices in many hunting and field-bred lines of German Shorthaired Pointers because of the breed’s working history and injury prevention.

Retirement life has been treating Ruby just right. These days she’s living the dream as a full-time couch potato, soaking up naps and relaxing like a pro. Papa Finley is usually right there beside her, enjoying the lazy life too… unless he’s out on the farm checking on things.

Wishing you and your family a blessed and peaceful Easter filled with faith, joy, and fresh beginnings.
