THINGS TO ASK WHEN PURCHASING A TRAINED HUNTING RETRIEVER 🐾

One of the biggest mistakes people make when purchasing a trained hunting dog is focusing ONLY on flashy retrieves or obedience videos.

A trained dog is so much more than that.

The right dog should fit:
✔ your lifestyle
✔ your experience level
✔ your hunting goals
✔ your family
✔ and your personality

Some of the MOST important questions buyers should ask include:

• Why is the dog being sold?
• Has it hunted real birds during an actual season?
• Is it house trained or kennel clean?
• Is it vocal?
• How does it handle pressure and excitement?
• What health testing has been completed?
• What are the dog’s strengths AND weaknesses?
• Does the dog’s temperament truly fit your goals?

One thing we strongly encourage people to remember:

There’s a BIG difference between:
“started on birds”
and
“seasoned through real hunting situations.”

Another huge factor people overlook is pedigree and health history. Pedigree papers are not just about titles on paper — they help tell the story behind the dog’s genetics, temperament, health, trainability, and purpose.

And honestly…
the BEST trained dog is not always the flashiest dog.

The best trained dog is the one that truly fits YOUR life.
