Coco Update
I’m happy to report our girl is making progress.
As a reminder, Coco came to us early in 2020. She is a 3-year old Chocolate Lab, retired breeding dog that was surrendered to us by her owner.
She was not properly socialized and has been diagnosed with Global Fear.
Since my last update, Coco has been taken off of the Clonazepam (a sedative) which was prescribed initially to address her anxiety and nervousness.
At her September visit to OSU Veterinary Clinic, the Vet felt she’d made enough progress to attempt to stop this medication. We slowly weaned her off and her last dose was September 28. Her other medication (the vet calls it “the bravery drug”) was increased.
Since that time Coco has continued to show positive progress. She is more alert, responsive, makes eye contact more and appears more engaged with what’s taking place around her. We were gone for a week recently and during this time family friends tended to our dogs. Coco did well. She continued to eat, go outside and didn’t regress while we were gone. She warmed up to us right away when we returned.
Earlier this week there was a pretty significant short thunderstorm with hard rain. The last time this occurred she was very nervous/anxious and kept to herself for a couple days. This time, she rested quietly through the storm and there were no lingering after effects.
Since going off the sedative, she has shown absolutely no aggression. (not that she ever did but taking her off the sedative could have caused a change in behavior).
She still interacts well with other dogs, walks beautifully, travels well in a car and remains a calm, laid back girl. The degree of timid behavior; while improved, is still something she displays at times.
Coco is SO easy to love and we find ourselves excited with each step of progress she makes. Her quality of life continues to improve with love & support.
An owner who is retired, someone that works from home or works part time would likely be the best sce
Rosie was returned to us when her adoptive family realized she wasn’t a good fit for them. Many thanks to our foster family and Brinks K9 Training for their help in making sure Rosie was ready for a new home. Some of you may recognize former PAWS dog Dory in this video. Dory has welcomed Rosie to her family and and it’s been a instantaneous bond between these furry sisters and their new mom. Happy Tails Rosie!!
Still lots more items to come but a tiny sneak peek of Fall for PAWS! You don’t want to miss this!! Saturday, Oct 12th!!
Daisy Mae has spent her life outside. She had no training and was an accomplished door dasher who had no leash manners. Look what one afternoon with Dave Brink of Brink’s K9 Training did!!! If your dog needs a little help, you can find Brink’s K9 Training on Facebook. Daisy will make a great addition to your family.
