Exposing Rua to the boom stick 💥

We’ve retrieved many dummies from the remote launcher over time. He associates the sound with a positive thing - a dummy flying through the air 🚀

Next, I will begin exposing Rua to what makes the boom 🔫. I like starting off with poppers instead of blanks or light live loads. The poppers are empty hulls that only have the primer (Fiocchi-GundogSupply). It’s not very loud but it does allow you to expose them to what the 🔥Arm in a more safe and low stakes manner.

** Stop blasting live loads with a 12g next to your unprepared dog that hasn’t had proper exposure to gumfire. Too many people think they will just “desensitize” their dog the same way Hondo taught Johnny to swim - Just throwing him right in 🤦‍♂️.

Fern is the latest newcomer to Marlen Gundogs. We’ve waited a couple of years for this litter to happen and are very excited that Fern is here. Fern is going to be a great addition to our family but also as a hopeful dam for us in the future 🤞

Rua - Shinnhill Madra Dearg of Marlen turns 1 today 🥳

As a breeding program hopeful - Rua is exemplifies what we want to provide to our puppy customers. He loves others and is always happy. He is resilient and determined. Trainability is outstanding in regard to field or home training. Rua has great situational awareness and is bold where it counts.
He’s met every field training obstacle at full speed with a level head. Rua is collected and steady by nature but his drive to work and retrieve are exceptionally high. He’s also a wonderful friend to our family and is a very pleasant companion in our home.

My favorite thing about Rua is that he never has a bad day. He is ,without question, the happiest creature at Marlen.

Since her previous training stay a year and a half ago - May has become what we call “self employed”. Meaning - she goes where she pleases and does not consider our alignment at casting.

In this hay field, we have 3 piles set up in different locations. The objective is to review casting alignment and hold her accountable in that line from cast. Since the grass is so tall, we are using indicators ⚠️ for May to key on from our casting position. This clarifies where we are telling her to go.
