Harper’s Hunt Whistle Reaction Plan 📝

Harper’s understanding of the hunt whistle is that I’m letting her know she is in the area of fallen game or dummy and she needs to comb that immediate area and be on alert. She executes this well but she almost always reacts forward when given the hunt whistle. And more often than not, moving forward is putting her farther away from the fallen game - resulting in a “back” or two to put her back in the fall area.

I want to teach Harper to react back when given the hunt whistle. Now typically you’d start associating this skill at food training time. Especially with a young dog. However, Harper is an advanced retriever and I know she and I are able to intiate this skill here in the field.

Key things to notice:
✴️ Distance - I only want her going back 10-15ft max. Any further, she likely leaves fall area.
✴️ Progression in letting her see the dummy to tossing them out blind.
✴️Changing the dummies so she isn’t looking for the same dummy or color each time.

Keep in mind this skill is only initiated here. We will continue to stregthen this skill over time.
