Who you surround yourself with will either sharpen you… or slowly dull you.

The conversations you sit in daily?
They’re shaping your mindset whether you realize it or not.

Pay attention:
– Are they building or breaking?
– Focused or distracted?
– Growth-minded or stuck in excuses?

Because you don’t rise above your environment—you eventually match it.

In the barn and in life, the right circle pushes you:
to ride better
to think clearer
to expect more out of yourself

Not tear you down… not keep you comfortable… not normalize average.

And let’s be real positivity isn’t just “good vibes.”
It’s discipline in how you think, speak, and respond when things get hard.

Faith backs it up too.

Proverbs 27:17 — “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

So choose wisely.

Because who you walk with…is who you start becoming.

There’s something I wish more people understood when choosing a trainer…
Not every great horseman is meant for every rider. And that’s not a flaw, it’s just the truth.

Some trainers are incredible riders. They can take a horse and make it shine in ways most people only dream of.
Some are exceptional trainers, they build horses from the ground up with feel, timing, and precision.
And some are incredible coaches, they pour into you, helping you learn, grow, and become better for your horse.

None of those are wrong. They’re just different.

The mistake happens when we don’t get honest about what we actually want.

If your goal is to watch your horse go in the pen and win with a professional… then you need to choose a program built for that.
If your goal is to go in the pen yourself and compete at a high level… you need a program that prepares you for that.
And if your goal is to truly learn…
to understand your horse,
to improve your feel,
to become a better horseman…
then you need a trainer who prioritizes teaching you, not just producing the horse.

There is no wrong answer.
But there is a wrong fit.

Not every program is designed for every goal, and not every rider will thrive in every system, and that’s okay.

What matters is that you take the time to ask yourself:
“What do I really want out of this?”

And then have the courage to commit to a program that aligns with that vision.

Because at the end of the day, the best program for you…
is the one that helps you become exactly who you’re trying to be in this journey with your horse.

Well said and heard.

A NOTE FROM ASHLEY—

Do you ever step back and look at your life through a wider lens?

Not just what’s on your calendar today, or even this month, but the bigger picture.

If you haven’t done that lately, I’d encourage you to. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life—putting your head down and taking the next step—without ever checking the map to make sure you’re headed where you actually want to go.

There’s a place for that. Those small, consistent steps are what get you there. But there’s also a time for reflection and reevaluation.

So maybe not every day, but every once in a while, pause and look around. Make sure the path you’re on still aligns with the life you want to build.

Then get back to the work—and keep taking those small steps that will carry you there.

Who are you competing against? I hope the answer is yourself.

Don’t measure your life against someone else’s; just take an honest look at your own.

Where is your life headed?

Your health. Your family. Your work. Your faith. Your finances.

What small steps can you take today to make each of those areas better?
